Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Iowa State University's Center for Survey Statistics and Methodology (CSSM) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, is seeking qualified applicants for a Senior Software Architect/Developer (Systems Analyst III). This position leads the development, deployment, maintenance and support of computer assisted survey information collection software, custom statistical analysis packages, data analysis software and other components related to CSSM's survey and analysis systems. The selected individual identifies and incorporates technologies key to the success of CSSM and its clients into CSSM's survey systems. Responsibilities include advanced programming for survey systems, data analysis tools, and statistical estimation development, database development for survey data, and web application development and mobile application development.
The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of software testing, including automated testing tools and have experience with formal software development methodologies, including Agile development. This position will need to collaborate with the faculty of the Center for Survey Statistics and Methodology (CSSM) and a national survey staff in planning and implementing system development for the survey process. The incumbent is responsible for understanding the very complex National Resources Inventory survey sponsored by the USDA, so that software can be properly developed to collect and analyze the data. The successful candidate will possess project management skills, very broad software development technical skills and knowledge of industry-wide standards and techniques. Must have good interpersonal and communication skills and work well in a collaborative team environment.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 2 years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Software development experience Experience using a variety of databases including Oracle, SQLite, PostgreSQL, Berkeley or MongoDB Leadership experience as a technical lead, team lead or project lead. Experience with software development IDEs including Eclipse, Visual Studio, NetBeans, CLion, IntelliJ, etc. Statistical methods, algorithms, and processing & Strong analytical skills Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment & strong written and verbal communications skills in English Experience with formal design methods, including Agile development methods; Scrum, Kanban, Unified Process, or Extreme Programming
