The Course Designer will build and support online courses offered in The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science. Under the supervision of the Director of Online Learning, the Course Designer will work with the design team on course planning, developing online course components, assessment set up in the Learning Management System (Canvas) and providing support to the students, faculty and administrators.
Online Delivery Support (60%)
Provides support to students and faculty related to online courses
Facilitates assessment setup in LMS and supports faculty, students and proctors on assessment delivery
Reviews online content, including recorded videos and assessments for quality control
Assists with production calendar management
Creates reports to track course development and course progress
(20%) Manage content development
Works with faculty, and online team members to develop and adapt content toward the goals and instructional objectives of the course.
Format, edit, and prepare learning content and materials as directed
Assist with the production of lecture content and other media.
Assure copyright compliance on all digital content and registers all content with the library e-reserves.
Records and reports on work through project management/tracking software to inform team members and stakeholders on the progress of all aspects of content, feature, functionality development.
Obtains final approvals from faculty and lead designer.
Ensures the timely and successful launch of high quality courses.
(10%) Support continuous improvement
Assist in the assessment and evaluation of the usability and effectiveness of Web sites, educational materials, and learning objects.
Research current and emerging e-learning technologies such as: collaborative or social networking tools, etc.
(10%) Performs other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
Bachelor's degree or its equivalent. Minimum 2-4 years of demonstrated, related experience with e-learning development and production processes.
Thinks critically about workflow and practice, and identifies creative solutions for process improvements. Demonstrated evidence of professional experience working as a content developer or developmental editor.
Excellent written communication skills and editing abilities. Strong organizational and management abilities. Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate effectively with stakeholders on a cross-functional team and deliver results under prescribed deadlines. Ability to define and manage his/her own work processes towards specified team objectives.
Publishing experience for print- and technology-based products. Ability to evaluate content to determine its appropriateness for target audiences. Ability to read, comprehend, analyze and interpret concepts, documents, and data. Experience in online learning and with Learning Management Systems. Knowledge of HTML, editing software, course development software, video editing. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. High attention to details.
