Reporting to the Manager, Organizational Excellence, this position provides strategic business analysis services to ATCO’s Natural Gas division(s). The focus of this position is to work closely with the business units to gain in-depth understanding of customer’s business strategy, processes, services, roadmap and the context in which the business operates. This role will be key to understanding the documenting capabilities needed to address business challenges. The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for reviewing assigned business processes from end-to-end to identify and address operational, financial and technological risks. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency. Responsibility will include a full range of activities from leading small to mid-size projects to assisting other project managers or business leads on larger more complex projects related to operational business functions.
Champions the Business Analyst/Process Analyst centre of excellence, setting standards for requirements gathering, process mapping and gap analysis.
Mentors junior BA’s in developing their skills and ensuring the long-term success of the process optimization group within Gas Transmission and Distribution.
Manages customer relationships and expectations by developing a communication process to keep others up-to-date on project results.
Demonstrates up-to-date expertise in Information Systems and applies this to the development, execution and improvement of action plans by providing advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices.
Provides project Business Leads within the organization with templates, tools and resources (where required) to fulfill the requirements gathering, process mapping and gap analysis needs of the business.
Define project requirements by identifying project milestones, phases and elements; forming project team; establishing project budget. Supports the identification, hiring, assignment of BA resources to projects. Oversees the day-to-day work of BA resource pool.
Provide and support the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; identifying business needs; determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices; monitoring progress and results; recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes and new responsibilities.
Serve as a liaison between Operations and IT to assist or gather business requirements needed for system modifications, enhancement and implementations.
Co-generates the long-term strategy for process optimization within Gas Transmission and Distribution.
Provide leadership to team members and peers by collaborating with others; articulating ideas and viewpoints to senior management, peers and others; identifying and initiating projects; managing resources; driving the resolution of issues; and holding self and team accountable for results.
Identify improvement opportunities (proactive and reactive).
A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Computer Science, diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience appropriate for this position.
5 – 7 years business analysis experience.
Business Analyst Certification an asset.
Project Management experience an asset.
Detail oriented, analytical and inquisitive.
Well-developed communication skills and strong time-management skills.
Ability to work under minimal supervision.
Strong analytical, problem solving, collaboration and meeting facilitation skills.
Previous experience in Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) required.
Ability to impact operations and effect change without being confrontational.
Experience in pipeline and gas industry would be an asset.
Lean/six sigma training would be an asset.
