Duke University’s goal is to be a leader in college athletics digital media. Under the direction of the Executive Director of Digital Strategy and working closely with the Associate Director of Digital Strategy/Social Media, the Social Media Assistant will help execute the Duke Athletics digital strategy.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Execute and distribute content across [assigned sports] all social media accounts on a variety of platforms including: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube and GIPHY
Responsible for managing day-to-day coverage of [assigned sports]
Stay up-to-date on the latest trends and adjust strategy accordingly
Assist with updating the Duke Athletics Social Media style guide
Collaborate with [assigned sports] staff including sports information, video, marketing and ticket office
Meet with [assigned sports] coaches and team staff
Discuss social media strategy, yearly goals/objectives, updates on content calendar
Educate [assigned sports] coaches, student-athletes and staff on social media best practices with a strong emphasis on personal branding
Lead weekly staff content meetings with an emphasis on creative brainstorming:
Work closely with our contacts from Facebook and Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube and GIPHY to ensure we keep up with platform best practices, newest updates, etc.
Create and analyze notable analytics reports to distribute to staff
Assist with @DukeATHLETICS projects when needed
Cultivate and maintain relationships with outside vendors
In-season travel may be required depending on [assigned sports]
Collaborate and fulfill revenue generating campaigns with IMG
Manage, train and develop our student worker group
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
Bachelor’s degree required preferably in communications, media, marketing or related field
Experience with social media platforms, focus on content creation
Strong writing and interpersonal skills
Problem-solving skills, attention to detail and capacity to thrive in pressure situations
Ability to work flexible/long hours
1-2 years working as a student in a collegiate athletics sports information, digital media or marketing office
Proficiency Adobe Creative Suite
