We focus on creating personalized learning experiences, hosting opportunities for students to showcase their work, and offering workshops and services to accelerate students' professional development.
Detailed Job Description Reporting to the Dean of Graduate Education, this position will initially be responsible for the development of new doctoral degree proposals and coordinating all cooperative components necessary to propose these new degree programs via the internal Academic Program & Curriculum Management process. This position will provide writing, editing, and coordination support during the development of new proposals. The successful candidate will interact and guide work with faculty in the various academics departments on campus, as well as proposal evaluators throughout the process. This individual will be charged with conducting research and collecting data to efficiently and accurately complete proposals in a timely manner, according to prescribed standards. Once the PhD program proposals are completed the person selected for this role could be tasked with managing a team of technical writers to complete new program proposals, intent papers, grant proposals and other technical reports.
The Project Manager and Sr. Technical Writer role will assist the Office of Graduate Education and the Office of the Provost with accomplishing Goal 11 of the University Strategic Plan: Increase research, scholarship, and artistic activity by developing nationally prominent research areas and centers, increasing the number of doctoral degrees awarded, and developing new Ph.D. programs.
This position requires strong interpersonal and project management skills and an understanding of degree program development in higher education. The Project Manager and Sr. Technical Writer will work with the college curriculum committees, graduate council and academic senate to prepare final proposals for approval of the Provost, President and ultimately NYSED.
Other responsibilities include:
Manage faculty liaisons and other contributors to formulate content for various new PhD degree proposals, working on multiple proposals simultaneously.
Write/Author effective proposals for new PhD programs, review and edit sections drafted by other contributors, and anticipate approach to sections of the proposal template.
Set the timeline for each new PhD degree proposal submission and ensure final submission is on track with deadlines and compliant with submission guidelines and regulatory standards.
Project Management - Prepare work plan and administration of each project in a consistent manner preparing action items for each section of proposal and prepare periodic status reports.
Maintain and update database of proposal drafts and completed submissions.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in communication, English, journalism or a related field
5 - 7 years experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated knowledge of project management practices and methods
Experience in developing, writing, and submitting grant or academic proposal applications
Ability to exercise judgment and autonomous initiative while handling time sensitive matters
Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in complex situations with competing priorities
Experience in higher education working with program and/or college curricular committees
Knowledge of graduate degree program curricula framework
Familiarity with NYSED regulations and MSCHE standards
