Position PurposeThe Data Integration Specialist is responsible for supporting all efforts to proactively curate the constituent data available to users in order to ensure that it is accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date.Virtually every facet of UW Advancement operations depends on access to quality data. It allows each business group to be more effective, return a higher success rate, more precisely target messaging, and develop more accurate models. It drives quality decision-making processes at all levels and is a requirement for continued success of the institution. A lack of quality data will leave these units blind--making decisions based on partial data and struggling to effect change.The Data Integration Specialist works within the Information Management (IM) team to collaborate with other University Advancement units and UW partners to*Support data governance policies and practices; promulgate a common understanding of data elements and definitions;*Facilitate a common operating picture for data management;*Integrate UW Institutional data sources from partner units across campus;*Plan and execute efforts for best use of data inside and outside of our CRM (currently Ellucian Advance);omay range from full ingestion to side-loading of data into parallel databases;odatabases include but are not limited to our enterprise digital marketing platform, Marketo, and our online event registration system, Cvent.Key to the success of this position is understanding the nuance of data flowing among the various Advancement database systems including the CRM software (Ellucian Advance), Marketo, Cvent, and other data stores, as well as the management of complex metadata schemas, including data policy, controlled vocabularies and unit taxonomy/ontology.Duties and ResponsibilitiesStrategy DevelopmentEvaluate and support opportunities to enhance the integration of data that is shared or coordinated among the University Advancement-supported systems (including Advance, Marketo, Cvent, and others);Collaborate in planning and executing campus-wide data integration methodologies and processes;Continuously evaluate data processes for improvement and efficiencies;Assist with managing and maintaining UW Advancement unit taxonomy/ontology for defining, categorizing, integrating, and distributing unit-based metadata across multiple systems;Analyze business needs and processes to develop and support best practices in data management.Program Development and ManagementIdentify and acquire information from various sources, developing process automation wherever possible;Ensure coherent and reliable data standards, isolate and eliminate data inconsistencies, and monitor the quality and accuracy of data being integrated into Advance and its subordinate systems;Routinely survey and monitor data in Advance, Marketo, Cvent, and other stores, to discover data irregularities or deficiencies;Develop data standards that best support predictive modeling and other standardized reporting needs;Advise campus partners and decision makers regarding data acquisition and usage implications;Provide project management and oversight to for assigned complex technical projects as part of the Information Management project management system.Manage and direct technical vendors and data suppliers as appropriate.Relationship ManagementCollaborate with internal and external partners across campus to understand data acquisition and modeling needs;Collaborate with campus partners to integrate data into Advance as necessary;Advise campus partners on data collection methodology and ETL best-practices;Develop or advise on the development and implementation of data collection and input into Advance, Marketo, Cvent, and other Advancement data stores.Other duties as assignedKey CompetenciesCoreEffective communications: Expresses oneself clearly and empathetically in interactions with others in all forms of communication, i.e., verbal and written, one-on-one and group, etc.Interpersonal Awareness: Builds and maintains positive relationships and actively contributes as a member of working teams to achieve results.Professional Credibility: Takes responsibility for meeting goals, objectives, obligations, and solving problems while representing the mission, vision and values of the organization.Critical Thinking: Obtains, analyzes and evaluates information effectively in the face of ambiguity. Equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may substitute for degree.Strong proficiency in T-SQL and related technologies, including MS SQL Server (MSSQL), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), development of scripted solutions and stored procedures.Familiarity with project management and source control software;Strong project management, analysis and problem-solving skills with an ability to implement solutions.Proficiency using PC computers.
