The Development Manager for Annual Giving and Engagement in the Center for Galapagos Studies (CGS) is a half-time position (0.5 FTE). The Development Manager directs the annual fund program (including mail, phone, and online) and is responsible for setting and meeting annual fund goals, in conjunction with the Galapagos Leadership Team and the University Development Office (UDO). The position will serve as liaison to the UDO Annual Giving marketing manager. The Development Manager will implement an engagement program and strategy for major gift prospects, including travel planning and logistics for prospective donor trips to the Galapagos, as well as lectures and events in the Triangle area and other domestic locations. The Development Manager will work with various constituencies in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands to support UNC visitors and potential Galapagos donors. Coordination with the staff at CGS and the Galapagos Science Center (GSC) on San Cristobal Island is essential to insure a successful outcome for visitors and constituencies in the Galapagos.
This position is responsible for the following: (1) stewardship of annual and major gifts (i.e. acknowledgement letters and stewardship reports); (2) development communications (i.e., liaises with OUD marketing and other communications officers to craft development materials for work with donors);(3) ensuring that gifts are booked properly, reports are generated, and queries addressed; and (4) providing general support to the development program, including support for the Galapagos Leadership Team. The Development Manager reports to the Assistant Director at the Center for Galapagos Studies and works with the UDO’s Constituent Programs Liaison. The position may travel abroad once or twice a year as needed.
Education and Experience:
ESSENTIALQUALIFICATIONS - Previous experience using databases, spreadsheets, basic software systems (i.e., Microsoft Office), and desktop design programs. - Demonstrated experience with fundraising/development systems. - Previous experience coordinating development events. - Previous experience designing and implementing annual and major giving programs. - Demonstrated ability to develop effective donor relations. - Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills, superb judgment, ability to take initiative and work independently, excellent organizational skills, and exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. - Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with a wide range of audiences to resolve problems and answer questions. - Willingness to travel to the Galapagos Science Center approximately annually.
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS - Fluent Spanish and English speech and comprehension, as well as the ability to translate document and interpret conversations from English to Spanish and Spanish to English. - Previous experience living or traveling in Latin America. - Appreciation for and desire to learn about the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador, including the social-ecological threats to their sustainability and the interactions among the social, terrestrial, and marine sub-systems in the Galapagos Islands and other similarly challenged settings around the globe. - Previous experience working in an academic setting. - Previous experience with Blackbaud CRM software.
