The mission of the Campus Planning and Development department is to connect people, space, and resources to prepare the university to thrive in the future.
The Campus Planning and Development Department is seeking a Campus Planner to take on varied assignments in support of physical growth and change on the Northeastern campuses. The Campus Planner will work at a rapid pace to develop innovative solutions to space challenges, coordinate the public entitlements process, and support real estate development efforts on the Boston campus and beyond.
The Campus Planner works as part of a small, creative team to partner with university stakeholders to explore their vision for the physical campus and help bring it to fruition . The Campus Planner will use data to help inform and communicate options to meet the University's near and long term space needs. They will identify, articulate, and illustrate key tradeoffs and understand how to balance delivery of local needs with broader institutional priorities and constraints. They will develop strategy and create materials to achieve public entitlements e.g. Article 80/Institutional Master Plan process in the City of Boston, for the university's development goals.
The Campus Planner will lead planning studies, partner with Facilities project managers to assess capital project requests, and will direct and manage consultant teams.. The Campus Planner will develop effective communication materials that distill complex ideas into concise options and tradeoffs. The Campus Planner will gather and analyze data to inform campus planning initiatives. As part of the Campus Planning team, the Campus Planner places high value on customer service, partnering with clients and connecting them to the broader planning vision.
The Campus Planner will also support real estate initiatives including partnerships with private developers, leasing and/or dispositions. The Campus Planner will be expected to maintain a working knowledge of the real estate markets, trends, and adjacent development proposals that could impact the university.
Bachelor's degree in Planning, Architecture, Real Estate, or a related field, master's preferred. A minimum of five years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Proven ability to gather and analyze data. Ability to create compelling communication materials to present options for approaching various project and planning initiatives. Must be skilled in use of Microsoft Office and Adobe Design Suite. Familiar with space database systems and AutoCAD a plus. Understanding of building regulations and permitting processes. Ability to assess the adaptability of space and understand order of magnitude cost parameters for renovation of existing structures. Demonstrated ability to work both in team and as with high level of independence. Individual should be able to set priorities and meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work effectively with faculty, vendors, staff and public officials at all levels to achieve outcomes.
