General Purpose: This position is responsible for collegiately working with MICA stakeholders in the efficient management of construction projects for all campus facilities in accordance with professional industry standards and practices in support of MICAâs and Facilities Managementâs mission and vision.
Summary of Essential Functions: â¢In all cases, represent MICAâs interests in a fiduciary capacity. â¢Work collaboratively with all members of the Facilities Management staff, other members of the Operations division, and MICA stakeholders in the management of all construction projects for the College. Construction shall primarily be funded through the capital budget but may include projects funded through the operating budget and special projects. â¢Working collaboratively with the MICA Manager of Space Planning and Renovation, this position shall participate in feasibility, design, construction and closeout phases of all MICA Facilities Management projects. Oversight shall include MICA staff (where applicable) and vendors through all phases of projects. â¢Develop and manage MICAâs annual capital projects plan and ten year capital plan. â¢Develop and maintain current project management procedures based on industry best practices and MICA policies. â¢Work collaboratively with the Manager of Space Planning and Renovation in the development and updating of design standards and maintaining project closeout documentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: â¢Manage all construction projects in accordance with professional industry practices and standards (Project Management Institute, Construction Management Association of America) and MICA policies and requirements for a wide variety of college-owned or leased facilities ensuring that all will be completed in accordance with project requirements. â¢Develop MICA Construction Projects Operations Manual consistent with industry standards, MICA policies and procedures. â¢Based on industry standard practices, develop project charters, schedules, budgets, quality program, loss control program, change management system, communication program and closeout program for application on all projects. Tailor each to projects. Coordinate the loss control program with the Director of Environmental Health and Safety. â¢Develop the MICA capital projects list for approval by the Capital Budget Committee. â¢Manage MICAâs ten year capital plan by identifying and budgeting new capital requirements, removing completed projects and prioritizing projects based on MICAâs near and long term goals. â¢Proactively manage all construction phase activities (including but not limited to: shop drawings, certificates of insurance, job meetings, Requests for Information, applications for payments, change requests, punch list completion, FF&E, closeout, etc.). â¢Conduct field inspections to ensure strict adherence to MICA policies and all construction project requirements including but not limited to schedule, budget, quality and safety. The safety of all stakeholders shall be top priority in all cases. â¢Review all project correspondence and provide detailed correspondence with project stakeholders (agencies, organizations, faculty, students, staff, community members, Board of Trustees) to ensure that projects are fully coordinated. â¢Work collaboratively with the Manager of Space Planning and Renovation gather and coordinate project requirements through discussions with clients regarding function, operations, organizational goals, budget, and scheduling. â¢Prepare cost analysis, feasibility studies, and comparisons of proposed uses of facilities to determine project work plans and associated schedules. â¢Facilitate the resolution of code related issues with appropriate code officials and/or project designers. â¢Coordinate project activities with government regulatory agencies in order to obtain and expedite necessary approvals and permits, as well as working with city and state agencies for permit-review status and modification of schedules as required. â¢Manage and evaluate assigned personnel that may include student workers. â¢This position is designated as âRequired Personnelâ. â¢Participate as a Facilities On Duty (FOD) with on-call responsibilities shared by the Facilities Management leadership staff. â¢Attend and participate in Facilities Management related MICA and community committees/organizations. â¢Perform other assignments and duties as directed by the Associate Vice-President of Facilities Management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: â¢Knowledge of construction project management industry standard practices and procedures such as defined by the Project Management Institute and the Construction Managers Association of America â¢Thorough knowledge of construction estimating, budgeting, cost management, scheduling, quality and loss control â¢Demonstrated knowledge and experience with building systems, energy management, and technology systems â¢Knowledge of sustainable practices â¢Knowledge of a wide variety of computer software (Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, spreadsheets) â¢Adeptness in conducting research into project-related issues and products â¢Adeptness, comprehensive knowledge, and experience working with city and state agencies â¢Strong conflict-resolution and interpersonal skills as it relates to the ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of resources â¢Ability to maintain high ethical standards and act as a role model for any subordinate employees â¢Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment â¢Possession of excellent organizational skills, strong analytical and problem solving skills, and strong written, oral communication, and presentation skills
Minimum Qualifications: â¢Bachelorâs degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering or a related field â¢Proven experience as a commercial construction project manager, or three to five years as a construction project engineer â¢Knowledge of sustainable building practices (LEED, Passive House, Green Building, etc.), and historic and adaptive renovation
Preferred Qualifications: â¢Experience in higher education construction and/or facilities management is highly desirable. â¢Knowledge of energy management practices and securing associated grants

This position may be required to work additional and non-traditional hours (including evenings and weekends). â¢A satisfactory driving record and valid driverâs license are required.
