General Purpose: The Director, Curriculum Design and Development works to ensure the quality and value of Open Studies programming while innovating ways to create new programming with new curricular approaches. Position Responsibilities: Open Studies serves a diverse student body of traditional and non-traditional college students, art and design professionals, lifelong learners, teens, and children. The unit administers four unique professional graduate programs in the Business of Art and Design, Information Visualization, UX Design, and Design Leadership along with studio-based art and design classes for adults, teens, and children, short-term travel programs, and pipeline and cultural orientation programs in support of the collegeâs diversity and internationalization goals. As MICAâs educational venture space the unit is engaged in innovating academic programming (including digital education, new curricular areas and program structures, and programs for non-traditional students) and revenue growth. The Director, Curriculum Design and Development will: â¢ Work to assess/evaluate current online programs to assure qualityâ¢ Evaluate and strengthen program delivery modelsâ¢ Evaluate and strengthen instructor/student onboarding and preparation for online learningâ¢ Manage e-learning environments (MICA currently uses Canvas and Zoom as our primary e-learning tools):o Research, preview, evaluate, and recommend necessary e-learning tools and services and assistive technologyâ¢ Support instructors by providing the foundation materials for courses and giving constructive feedback on how instructors are implementing those materialsâ¢ Coordinate the development of instructional materials that are functional, informative, and consistent with sound instructional design principles, including alignment of educational objectives with content, activities, and assessmentsâ¢ Provide recommendations for interface design, sequencing of instruction, use of assessments, and online interactive activitiesâ¢ Create, document and improve processes, standards, and best practices, as neededâ¢ In consultation with MICAâs Learning Resource Center:o Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act o Guide adherence with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0o Ensure design & style consistency for standardization, branding, normalization, and accessibilityo Conduct Assistive Technology assessments with faculty and students and partner with them to implement, install, train, and follow up on recommendationsâ¢ Provide Web Accessibility guidance and consultation to Open Studies instructors, students, and staffâ¢ Hire, train, and supervise help desk staff in support of the e-learning environment including approaches to supporting students having accessibility issues â¢ Coordinate work with academic program leadsâ¢ Budget oversight responsibilities for some restricted and/or endowed fundsMinimum Qualifications:â¢ Master's degree in related fieldâ¢ Knowledge of current theories, trends, and innovations related to contemporary approaches to curriculum design and development and Adult Learning Theoryâ¢ Ability to evaluate instructional and program effectivenessâ¢ Experience with e-learning technologies including various operating systems, file structures, file formats, protocols, streaming audio and video, podcasting, and social networking toolsâ¢ Experience with Canvas and Zoomâ¢ Knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices associated with students with disabilities, assistive technology and copyright issues (ADA, 504, 508, WCAG, FERPA, Chafee law, etc.) â¢ Familiarity with assistive technology and software programs for individuals with disabilitiesâ¢ Ability to gather, interpret, and extract meaning from dataâ¢ Capacity to develop, implement, and manage strategic objectivesâ¢ A collaborative, entrepreneurial, proactive style with excellent human relations skillsâ¢ Excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projectsâ¢ Detail oriented and deadline driven work ethicâ¢ Excellent written and verbal communicationâ¢ Ability to manage budget and personnelPreferred Qualifications:â¢ Background in or knowledge of art and design educationReporting to this position: Help Desk Technician, PT Physical demands and work environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
