The casual instructional designer will report to the instructional design team manager, and will work with full time instructional designers and JHU faculty, to update and develop fully online, blended, and web-enhanced courses and modules.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Support full-time IDs as needed to assist with course updates, builds and reviews
Develop media products for use in online and web-enhanced courses and websites including interactive activities, video, audio podcasts, and graphics
Collaborate and consult with faculty, staff, and associates on the effective use of instructional design strategies, web-based resources, multimedia technologies, and instructional software and systems to improve teaching for online delivery
Collaborate with teams of writers and subject matter experts to ensure instructional integrity of the course development projects through a method of systematic design and clear course standards and outcomes
Coordinate the development of instructional materials that are functional, informative, and consistent with sound instructional design principles
Provide recommendations for interface design, sequencing of instruction, use of assessments, and online interactive activities
Manage project timelines and coordinate with team members and partners to meet project deliverables
Closely collaborate with other members of OLA including instructional designers, instructional technologists and assessment staff

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Three years related experience
Master Degree in instructional design, educational technology or related field strongly preferred. Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Six years’ experience in instructional design
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of instructional design models, strategies and best practices including familiarity with the ADDIE model
Knowledge of current best practices in instructional design
Must have strong oral and interpersonal skills, and be able to deal with multiple constituencies and stakeholders of all levels
Ability to exercise independent judgment and solve problems in creative and productive ways
Knowledge of current and emerging instructional technologies and proven ability to adapt and learn new procedures and software programs
Must have exceptional project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
Knowledge of pedagogical issues related to online teaching and learning as well as current and emerging technologies
Familiarity with graphic design elements appropriate for online instruction
Must have keen attention to detail and have strong oral, written, and editing skills, including knowledge of APA
Knowledge of assessment and systems such as TK20 to manage assessments
Understanding of micro-credentialing preferred but not required
Ability to train one-on-one and in a group setting, as well as the ability to collaborate with faculty remotely and face-to-face
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:
Demonstrated competency using Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate (software not provided-candidate must have their own license)
Experience with Blackboard as a learning management system, including its vast array of features and functionalities
Experience with other learning management systems and web-based course management tools
Experience with web-based technologies and presentation software (e.g., VoiceThread, Panopto, Canva, PPT Online, etc.)
Experience with online conferencing software (e.g. Zoom)
Basic knowledge of streaming audio and video, compression methods, file types, and formats
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, basic HTML editing software, and basic image manipulation software, such as Fireworks or Photoshop
Familiarity with Office 365 tools, Camtasia and Articulate Rise preferred but not required
Graphic design experience a plus including experience with Adobe Illustrator
