Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) is responsible for the planning, design and construction of the University of Michigan’s physical campus. A division of Facilities and Operations under the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, our staff has the expertise to manage a wide range of facility improvement projects. We are seeking an Associate Supervisor, whose primary responsibility is assisting Project Managers and Senior Supervisors on a variety of construction and renovation projects at the University of Michigan. This position may also be responsible for independently managing multiple small projects. It is anticipated that project assignments will be in the hospital and health system facilities. Projects may include work in clinical areas, operating rooms, procedure rooms, patient rooms, offices, conference rooms and laboratories.
Assisting with planning, organization, scheduling and supervision of construction projects involving multiple trades.
Generating or reviewing project budgets. Estimating material and labor costs to complete a job.
Creating or reviewing project work scopes, design drawings, and specifications.
Leading project walk-throughs with Procurement and potential vendors.
Meeting and communicating with customers, maintenance staff, and project team members.
Coordinating utility shutdowns as needed for execution of a project.
Coordinating and supervising day-to-day efforts of trades on projects. Assessing productivity, quality, and efficiency on projects in construction. Assisting in change management and problem resolution.
High School Diploma
Direct experience and/or education in the delivery of construction projects.
Ability to read and interpret design drawings and specifications
Proficiency in managing spreadsheets, writing reports and email communications
Experience with skilled trade workers
Strong written, electronic and verbal communication, highly organized and customer focused
General knowledge of building codes and construction safety rules
Ability to meet deadlines
Ability to work as a member of a team
Ability to relate to individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds
Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture
Knowledge of estimating, scheduling and general office software, such as Microsoft Office products (or equivalent), Google products, smart phone technology, tablet technology and computers
Experience in hospital construction and infection control methods
Experience in estimating
