To assist the Chief Privacy Officer with the implementation of the privacy compliance program.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the Chief Privacy Officer in developing and implementing the privacy compliance program, including procedures to enable timely response to privacy concerns and patient privacy rights requests.
Performs audits to determine compliance with state and federal privacy laws and regulations and Christiana Care policy. Develops trending reports of privacy office matters for use in assessment of privacy compliance and risk analysis.
Manages the Privacy Hotline and other sources of privacy-related concerns and complaints. Conducts investigations of privacy matters and obtains and prepares documentation to support all actions taken. Collaborates with Employee Relations and managers to promote consistent application of sanctions for privacy violations.
Participates in the identification of privacy and security breaches and performs breach notification under HIPAA and applicable state laws.
Assists with resolving patient privacy rights issues including requests for amendment, access to medical record information, restriction of access, and accounting of disclosures.
Serves as an information privacy resource to the organization regarding release of information and to all departments and clinical areas for privacy-related issues.
Participates in activities to foster information privacy awareness within Christiana Care and related entities and develops training materials and delivers privacy training to members of the workforce.
Participates in the validation of privacy office technology applications.
Works with legal counsel in litigation and administrative matters related to privacy issues to represent Christiana Care's interests.
Attends and participates in the Privacy and Information Security Workgroup meetings.
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor in a timely manner any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to self, other employees, patients and visitors.
Performs other duties as requested by the Chief Privacy Officer.
Tracks privacy incidents and develops routine reports for the privacy program.
Manages Data Use Agreements, Business Associate Agreements, and participates in the third-party risk assessment process.
Assists the Chief Privacy Officer in developing privacy policies, guidelines, and procedures.

Frequent contact with patients, their representatives, workforce members, clinical leaders, and others.

Immediate: Chief Privacy Officer. Department Head: Chief Legal Officer.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Baccalaureate, Master's degree or Juris doctor. Juris doctor degree preferred. Recommended privacy or security certification. Two years of appropriate experience in a healthcare environment. Experience with Information Technology. (Experience with Healthcare applications and/or information technology auditing preferred). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
