The Media Support Systems Specialist is responsible to the Manager of Media Services for the supervision and operation of Media Services during the weekends and special times as needed. The Specialist supports media/audiovisual activities, and assists in the installation, functionality, maintenance, and upgrades of media systems. This includes classroom technology, auditoriums, video teleconferencing equipment and services, assistance and support in technology classrooms throughout the University, including some flexible hours as needed. Some assistance with design, selection, programming, repair, and installation of new and existing systems is required. Assistance with multimedia production and training for students, faculty and staff. The individual oversees Work Study attendance, and assists in completion of Work Study timesheets for approval by the Assistant Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide support for the delivery, set-up, breakdown and retrieval of equipment related to events across campus. Maintaining inventory and equipment for next use in a neat and orderly fashion. Assist users with related audiovisual and computer equipment. Supervise work-study students. Notify appropriate staff through helpdesk procedure of equipment failures. Testing, maintenance, and repair of all installed media systems hardware distributed throughout the campus, including, but not limited to, control systems, sound reinforcement systems, video projection, and remote access to devices.
Make recommendations for new equipment and replacements in classrooms, labs, meeting rooms, auditoriums, theatres, and other areas as needed.
Work closely with university members, the Media Systems Specialist, and the Director of User Support Services (USS) to define needs and solutions to existing or new media systems installations.
Maintain close communication with the USS Director, Media Services Manager, and other staff members on setup schedules and requests.
Provide on-call support as requested by faculty, staff, and students.
Facilitate repairs with external contractors as requested.
Instruct faculty and students on the operation and usage of multimedia hardware and software, technology classroom hardware and software. Serve as first level of response to problems.
Provide operational documentation as appropriate for media systems.
Instruct faculty and staff in use of video teleconferencing equipment, set-up equipment, media equipment, and create and maintain manuals for same.
Knowledge of and access to inventory and warranty information of hardware.
Assist in the documentation of policies and procedures and contribute to documentation in other areas as needed.
Setup, installation, repair, and frequency coordination of RF systems, including wireless mics, assistive listening, and RF control systems.
Contact appropriate staff in cases of emergency outages related to power or network.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise and perform general and specific duties of lab operations, including opening and closing of User Support Services (USS).
Keep a ready supply of necessary minor equipment, cables, connectors, etc. to ensure ability to keep equipment functioning.
Assist with audio and video recording, and editing with knowledge of related software. Digitize video and audio clips within proper guidelines for classroom use.
Assist with multimedia production projects.
Keep informed of changes and advances in media systems, A/V technology, multimedia, and computer technology to better enhance the University's services in these areas.
Provide exceptional customer service to members of the university community and guests.
Participate in professional development. Share information gathered through R&D.
Performs other duties as required by the Manager of Media Services.
Bachelor's degree in related field and /or equivalent industry certification.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and architectural blueprints a plus; skills in and use of AutoCAD software is a benefit.
Understanding of the infrastructure standards and needs of audiovisual/media systems, broadcast systems, and RF systems.
Experience in media systems and services required.
Knowledge of both PC and Mac computer, their multimedia capabilities, and knowledge of IP networks required.
Strong oral and written communication skills required with the ability to serve a wide variety of people including students, staff, and faculty members.
Must have strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Required efficiency in Microsoft Office, media hardware control-related software, and multimedia hardware and software.
Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Position may be exposed to potentially loud noises; climbing ladders and using lifts required.
