Responsible for conceiving, building, and managing programs and initiatives supporting student entrepreneurship, innovation, and human-centered design methods that are aligned with the Colgate liberal arts curriculum, the Colgate Arts, Innovation, Creativity, and Design strategic plan, and the 13 goals of a Colgate education. Accountable for developing and delivering a robust program based upon a thorough review of best practices in entrepreneurship, startup incubation, and human-centered design paradigms at both institutions of higher education and in the larger startup community. Ensures programs offer participants the opportunity to acquire professional skills needed to launch successfully into all career fields. Responsible for developing a successful engagement strategy for faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and associates of Colgate University resulting in a community that supports program participants. Accountable for ensuring that all activities follow Colgate University risk management policies, budget and operations control, and general university policies and procedures. Accountable for identifying specific goals and outcomes metrics for each component of the program and the development of measurement and reporting of the achievement against these goals and outcomes.
A minimum of 3+ years' work experience in Higher Ed or similar experience in a start-up or professional environment is required to adequately perform the duties associated with the job
Experience as an advocate for entrepreneurs in negotiations to include securing stakeholder buy-in, overseeing compliance, and advising on business plans
Knowledge of the business development process to include marketing and sales, project management, and staff management
Ability to provide honest consultation and guidance that results in a successful outcome
Must have worked in a team environment
Understanding and experience in protecting intellectual property, trademarks, and/or patent
Local network of mentors, investors, and subject matter experts
Engagement as an entrepreneur and familiarity with the entrepreneurial venture lifecycle
Teaching experience in business and management a plus
Specialized Skills Desired:
Ability to understand and operate with the unique aspects of working with student entrepreneurs and their coaches who work with them
Ability to work/manage in an entrepreneurial environment within the context of a larger, academic organization
Minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent life experience as an entrepreneur
