The successful candidate will, with minimal supervision and technical guidance, conceptualize, design, and develop mainframe and integrated solutions using COBOL, IDMS-ADS/O, SQL and server scripts and supporting technologies; work in a highly dynamic team environment regularly collaborating with team members and customers; produce scalable solution architecture and design, and high quality, maintainable code that is efficient and meets standards; work closely with project managers and other team members to develop plans and detailed specification documents with clear project deliverables and time lines; communicate effectively and in a timely manner with colleagues and clients; organize and coordinate application support services and provide tier II support for the help desk and customers; advocate for business clients and consult with peers in identifying system requirements while coordinating moderately complex application development projects; develop and execute test plans and technical reviews; participate in application change control and business continuity reviews to ensure updates are implemented in a timely manner while maintaining essential functionality; perform on-call operational duties during off-hours and weekends.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree in computer science, Information Systems, Business or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed including challenging Mainframe Software Development experience and leadership working with at least one mainframe programming language such as COBOL or PL/1, encompassing z/OS mainframe systems application design, development, testing and implementation; MVS JCL, ISPF/TSO; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a master’s degree in computer science, information systems, business, education, or related information technology field. Five or more years of experience which demonstrate a strong analytic and diagnostic skill set; technical skills covering z/OS mainframe products, technologies, and competitive knowledge, mainframe application systems analysis, programming and testing in languages such as CA-IDMS DB/DC, ADS/O, MAPC, COBOL, PL/1, Vision Results/DYL; experience with replication software, DARSTRAN. Highly motivated with the ability to learn and research current technologies related to job assignments. Skilled at building and fostering strong business relationships across different MSU teams; innovative and results-driven. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, the capacity to work in a dynamic, cross-functional team environment, and effectively plan and efficiently accomplish goals. Proven effective negotiation skills, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
