Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). One (1) year of full-time experience in the planning and execution of student events, including but not limited to: Student Activities, Residence Life, Commuter Student, Fraternity and Sorority Life, and/or Student Government. One (1) year experience in student and/or student organization advising and administration. Previous experience working with a diverse student body in a collegiate setting. Student experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications :
Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, Educational Leadership, Counseling, Social Welfare, or a related field completed or in progress. An additional one or more years of experience in student organization advising and/or administration. Experience with: student staff supervision; student leadership development and training; database management systems and/or reservation systems; marketing and communications including social media content management; and/or assessment.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Program Coordinator plays a vital role in engaging students in a vibrant campus life. The Coordinator helps to enhance the educational experience of Stony Brook students through facilitating student's development of, exposure to, and engagement with programs, events, organizations, and other opportunities. The Coordinator assists with all functions of the department including: Student organization/advisor training and development; leadership development efforts; program advisement; organizational risk management and administration; major programming and event planning; weekend programming; student staff supervision; and departmental marketing and assessment. The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. The selected candidates will be responsible for the following:
Programming and Outreach
Assist with the coordination, implementation, & assessment of a comprehensive programming model that is responsive to student needs & enhances campus community
Assist in the planning and execution of large-scale campus traditions such as Opening Activities, Involvement Fairs, ChillFest, Wolfieland, Homecoming, Student Life Awards, Brookfest, etc.
Assist with campus wide marketing and communications efforts for student life including print and digital collateral (i.e. fliers, social media outreach and content management, website, listservs and newsletters)
Provide on-site event support for student and/or departmental as necessary/in reference to risk level
Student Organization Advising and Leadership Development
Serve as program advisor to registered student organizations. Work with organizations to plan events to ensure success and adherence to departmental, University, and SUNY policies and procedures
Assist in processing reservations and event requests
Assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive student organizational training & development program focused on leadership, growth, and development, including conferences, workshops, tutorials, and newsletters.
Assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive organizational advisor training & development program focused on leadership, growth, and development. Training formats to include conferences, workshops, tutorials, and newsletters.
Student Organization Risk Management and Administration
Assist with annual registration of 350+ student organizations. Review all submitted documentation and ensure compliance with departmental, University, and SUNY guidelines for recognition and eligibility
Assist with coordination of New Club Process for all student organizations, and New Member Education for registered fraternities and sororities
Assist in the creation, review, enforcement, and outreach regarding student events, policies, and risk management
Attend Event Management Committee Meetings
Assist with organizational conduct investigations
Assist with the coordination of hazing prevention and risk management outreach and education
Assist with management of university's student engagement platform known locally as "SB Engaged" including: building content & managing back-end technical elements (i.e. set-up, design, site construction, and assessment); and training students and staff on utility of platform to increase adoption of and engagement with users
Student Staff Supervision :
Supervise area student staff. Attend and participate in staff meetings. Conduct regular supervision meetings. Assist in the recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of undergraduate and graduate student staff members across the department
Departmental and Divisional Service
Support and assist with area and divisional training, recruitment, recognition, goal setting, and assessment to report meaningful metrics to measure outcomes and outputs
Serves on departmental, divisional & university committees including but not limited to Earthstock, Homecoming, Opening of School, etc.
Other Duties or projects as assigned as appropriate based on rank and departmental mission.
This is a full time appointment. FLSA Non-exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. While performing duties on this job, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
