The Brown Alumni Magazine, the flagship publication for Brown's worldwide community of alumni, parents, and friends, seeks a creative, energetic Digital Specialist and Art Production Manager to join our small, highly collaborative team. Applicants must be well versed in emerging technologies surrounding digital engagement, possess a strong visual aesthetic, and be excited to work in graphic design and production for both print and web. Organization, good communication skills, and the ability to multi-task are musts.
Digital engagement for Brown Alumni Magazine
Working closely with the Deputy Editor, collaborate with a team of content producers to develop and implement a strategy for Brown Alumni Magazineâ™s digital engagement.
Use editorial judgment and visual design skills to ensure content aligns with the magazineâ™s voice and brand, and maximizes audience engagement.
Create/maintain spreadsheets and calendars to manage the flow of digital content.
Upload visual and editorial content to magazine website and other digital engagement tools.
Use analytics to measure the progress of digital communication initiatives.
Production of editorial and visual content
Working in collaboration with the Art Director, oversee production and assist in design.
Research and procure art and visual solutions in keeping with the magazineâ™s aesthetic in print and digital formats
Manage the print production process in-house and liaise with pre-press production personnel.
Manipulate images and video for use on the BAM website and other digital channels.
Design pages for print and digital editions of the BAM.
Maintenance of production schedule
Attend relevant meetings, and create and maintain spreadsheets that track content across print and digital platforms.
Updated skills in digital best practices, innovation, and industry standards
Keep current on best practices and trends in the rapidly changing field of digital and multimedia engagement and storytelling. Avenues include working with other digital communicators and strategists on campus, and participating in professional development opportunities on campus and beyond.
Education and Experience
Two years of professional experience in a digital strategy role, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
One year of professional experience in an art production role, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated digital publishing experience.
Demonstrated success using emerging technologies to meet communication goals.
Demonstrated experience measuring, analyzing, and reporting digital metrics.
Demonstrated strong visual aesthetic.
Strong interest in working in art research and print production.
Superb organizational skills, including deep attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Broad interest in and understanding of higher education.
Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and pre-flighting software desirable.
This position plays a key collaborative role as a liaison between the magazineâ™s print and digital production, directly reporting to the Deputy Editor for digital strategy and engagement, and with a dotted line report to the Art Director for digital and print production.
Evening or weekend hours may occasionally be required.
