Middle and Upper School Graphic Design Teacher (Part-Time)
The Park School of Baltimore has an opening for a part-time member of the visual arts faculty. The successful candidate will teach one section of 8th grade digital art all year and a section of Upper School as needed. Courses take place in a well-equipped 18 station digital lab with access to large format scanners and printers as well as plotting cutters and other equipment. Courses emphasize good visual communication and include an introduction to graphic design, basic digital photography and digital illustration for 8th grade. Responsibilities may include advising yearbook.
Park’s arts courses emphasize the process of making art, including design thinking and the Studio Habits of Mind. The knowledge of a multi-cultural approach to art education is essential. All art classes at Park include critique, self-assessment, and exhibition opportunities. Park’s art department is designed to align our K-12 program in a cohesive way. Conversations across divisions are frequent and valued.
All arts courses include formal and informal assessments and written reports. In addition to a part-time teaching schedule, the new faculty member will attend weekly department meetings. The art teacher participates fully in the life of a coordinated K-12 arts department. Yearbook advisors are responsible for leading students through the construction of the yearbook but are also the final editor of the book. Proofreading, working with various constituencies in the school, content and image editing, constructing and sticking to a schedule, working with the printer, and distribution are the key responsibilities.

BA or MA in Graphic Design or Art Education, or relevant experience
Significant training and experience in graphic design including the Adobe Creative Suite
Experience in digital photography preferred
Teaching experience at the Middle or Upper School level preferred
Demonstrated ability to work with students and materials in a safe manner
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Experience with long term projects
Orientation to progressive education and pedagogy
The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of the history of graphic design and digital art and their influence in the arts and culture
Interest in developing new course electives based on instructor and student interest
Interest in collaboration with classroom teachers and with members of the K-12 arts faculty
Ability to work in collaboration with students
Understanding of the print production process and Adobe In Design is desirable.
