The Curtis Laws Wilson Library of the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) invites applications for the position of Metadata Services Librarian.
Reporting to the Dean of the Library, the Metadata Services Librarian provides expertise and leadership on metadata for all library digital platforms. The librarian creates original metadata, works with record loads, processes authority work, and collaborates to provide enhanced access to all content materials. The relatively small size of the library means there will be many opportunities to work in cross-functional teams as well as play a leadership role in initiatives to lead the library forward in an ever-changing environment. In addition, Missouri S&T participates in a shared catalog environment with the University of Missouri System and the librarian will have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across the system.
Provides leadership for the library's cataloging and metadata projects, including supervising two full-time staff
Coordinates and manages authority work
Develops and maintains departmental policies and procedures
Works with other library departments to troubleshoot catalog and metadata issues
Provides guidance for MARC record loads
Acts as a metadata consultant for the library's institutional repository, Scholars' Mine
Keeps abreast of ongoing developments in metadata and cataloging
Gathers statistics and runs reports as necessary
Serves on library and University of Missouri system committees
Master's degree in Library and Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association by start date.
One year of cataloging experience using RDA, LCSH, and Library of Congress Classification.
Experience with integrated library systems such as III Sierra.
Two or more years of cataloging experience in an academic library
Experience with Innovative Interfaces Incorporated products
Experience with authority control
Experience with tools for bulk editing of metadata (MarcEdit, OpenRefine, Excel, etc.)
Knowledge of XML and related technologies
Familiarity with current issues and trends in metadata and cataloging, such as linked data and BIBFRAME
Familiarity with shared or consortia cataloging environments
Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills and the ability to perform effectively in a collaborative environment
Successful and creative management of staff and operations
Ability to work effectively with scholars and university partners
