Reporting to the Chief Operating and Financial Officer, and as a member of the Senior Leadership Group, the Chief Digital Officer (CDO) leads a key function of the school and is responsible for setting a vision for the technology necessary to support the academic program and other programs of the school. The technology team includes eleven operational and academic technology team members. The CDO is responsible for creating a team to support faculty, staff, and students, while working across functions to serve the instructional and operational technology needs of the school.
A strong candidate will be seen as an instructional leader in the school and will have the ability to engage with faculty, administrators, and staff effectively and to earn the respect of all the major constituents of the school community. The CDO will have solid skills in administering a school-wide instructional technology vision, planning and implementing new and existing technology initiatives, overseeing the customer service and technical components of the technology department, supervising the instructional and operational technology team, and creatively managing instructional technology. The candidate will have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and an ability to set a educational technology strategy which he or she can articulate to a large audience including those without technology experience.
The school operates on three academic and one administrative campus, and prioritizes the need to build connections across the Lower, Middle, and Upper School programs. With the Strategic Plan on pace to be completed next year and a Campus Master Plan just finalized, the work to support and implement the outcomes of these initiatives will be an important part of the CDO’s job.
Required Qualifications; Demonstrated Ability to:
Set a vision, strategic direction and leadership for the technology department which starts with integrating technology into curriculum and classroom practices to support the school’s academic and other student-centered programs. Partner closely with the Upper, Middle and Lower School Directors to support instructional technology, innovations, and other strategic initiatives in the classroom.
Update technology standards, policies, and procedures as they relate to curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Provide curricular and pedagogical expertise to update BB&N’s strategic educational technology planning efforts including developing and maintaining the Technology and Digital Learning Plan.
Work with BB&N leadership in the development of short- and long-term technology goals and strategies that are driven by the school’s mission, values, and instructional needs.
Create teams to support both the instructional and operational technology needs of the school and manage these teams to ensure resources are allocated appropriately and that the team members are developed to meet emerging trends in the industry.
Manage the technology budgets, allocate resources, and determine appropriate project schedules.
Manage and continuously update all technology related student, employee, and equipment policies and procedures across all of the school’s campuses.
Coordinate professional development related to integrating technology into instruction and assessment.
Monitor emerging trends and work with the Technology Committee (as its Chair) to evaluate and implement recommended educational technology initiatives.
Develop a plan and strategy to manage the components of the school’s operating technology. Set up systems and processes to acquire, track, implement, evaluate and manage these areas, including (but not limited to):
Data communications theory, protocols and hardware
Servers and server operating systems
Personal computer hardware and software
Database design and management
Customer service design, organization and operation
Internet and Intranet development standards
Organization, management and control of complex computer equipment and data processing systems
Disaster recovery and data failure systems
Data security and validity, including data privacy trends and regulations and related compliance
Technical website support
Software inventory and plans for integration
Implementation of new hardware and software and related upgrades that include timely communication and training

Minimum 10 years experience, preferably in an educational setting.
