Senior Counsel, Strategic Growth
By leveraging our collective legal and business expertise, the Mastercard legal team helps our business clients, including the Mastercard Strategic Growth (MSG) department, to develop innovative technology solutions and programs to grow Mastercard's business around the world. MSG is a new, dynamic organization within Mastercard diversifying Mastercard customers and geographies, building new business with governments, non-profits and international development organizations as well as engaging in corporate philanthropy, to create more pathways for including individuals and merchants in the financial system and the formal economy and putting into practice Mastercard's doing well by doing good business philosophy.
Mastercard is searching for a Senior Counsel, Strategic Growth, to join its Law Department at its headquarters in Purchase, NY to support MSG objectives. This challenging position reports to the SVP, Assistant General Counsel, Strategic Growth, and will work with the MSG legal team to primarily serve as a legal and business partner to: othe Humanitarian & Development team that develops and deploys tools that digitize life transactions in the agricultural, identity, health, education and micro-financing sectors. othe Center for Inclusive Growth and the Mastercard Impact Fund, growing Mastercard's global thought leadership, insights and corporate philanthropic efforts in local economic development, financial inclusion, the use of data for social good and the future of work. othe Corporate Sustainability and Global Partnerships & Infrastructure teams.
Have you worked with governments, NGOs or IDOs in the humanitarian or development space?
Have you supported academic and other thought leadership partnerships?
Have you developed public private multi-party coalitions?
Do you have project management experience?
Have you ever worked on the development of an innovative technology solution and brought it to market on a global scale?
Are you comfortable juggling a high volume of contracts and client requests in a fast paced, dynamic, global team environment?
Responsibilities include (i) structuring, drafting, and negotiating grant agreements, memoranda of understanding with NGOs and IDOs, technology supplier agreements, data licenses and other commercial contracts, (ii) advising business teams on the identification and analysis of legal and commercial risks related to the work of the business teams referenced above, and (iii) assist with the creation of training materials and playbooks for law colleagues and business clients in the regions around the world.
Liaise with global, regional and country teams in connection with deployment of technological solutions in international markets
Coordinate inputs where applicable from other legal department subject matter experts such as Data Privacy, Intellectual Property, Regulatory and Public Policy teams as well as Government Contracting Centers of Excellence.

Seeking intermediate-level lawyer with excellent commercial contracts drafting and negotiation skills, preferably in the government, public interest or non-profit space.
Cross-functional team player with excellent business and legal judgment and solutions orientation
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience directly advising clients on risks, mitigation tactics and solutions.
Self-starter comfortable working in fast pace, collaborative, global work environment.
A digital/technology mindset and in-house experience a plus.
Licensed to practice in New York.
