Central Finance and Administration drives efficiency and consistency in policy and practice across Central Administration. The organization broadly oversees the budgeting, reporting and strategic financial management needs of Central Administration, supporting the Associate VP for Central Finance and Administration and the Executive VP. The group also directly provides shared service financial and transaction management for three Central groups, including Harvard Public Affairs and Communications (HPAC), the Harvard Planning Office (HPO) and House Renewal Project Management (HRPM), as well as several groups involved in Allston Development and Initiatives. As a Financial Associate, you will report to the Financial Manager and be responsible for the day-to-day financial transactions for these entities, as well as ad-hoc reporting and budgeting support. The position represents an opportunity to join a dynamic team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Central Finance and Administration shared service model
Using the Oracle E-Business Suite, process daily financial transactions for the supported groups, including payables, P-Card activity, HCOM activity, interdepartmental billing for service areas and processing of related journals
Perform Allston and HRPM capital project invoice processing, ensuring all interim steps are achieved
Implement and support procedures to ensure compliance with University policies and best practices
Support monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes for the supported groups, including accruals and other accounting adjustments
Develop control reports to track transactional activity
Perform operational details of fee-for-service models (e.g., invoicing)
Support the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports to present to senior leadership, as needed
Support implementation of procedures and tools to improve efficiency in transaction processing
Support other ad-hoc projects, as needed
Manage the office needs for Central Finance and Administration to include space management, coordination of the IT refresh cycles, office supply purchases and other miscellaneous office projects
Helps manage the calendar of the AVP including scheduling large meetings involving coordination from other staff across both central administration and the University – may assist on other projects as needed

Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role:
Minimum of 3 years related administrative and financial experience. Education beyond high school may count toward experience.
Bachelor's degree strongly preferred. Should possess the ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be flexible and able to set priorities and manage deadlines. Problem resolution skills and the ability to work independently are helpful. Familiarity with Harvard's financial and PeopleSoft systems desired. Must be well-versed with Excel and have some prior experience working with financial reports. Proven organizational skills, strong attention to detail and use of sound judgment are essential. Demonstrated ability to successfully manage projects on deadline within a complex environment.
