The OHR Communications Specialist position focuses on communicating to prospective and current employees regarding employee benefits. This position is a 100%-time, Civil Service position in the Communications job code Communications Specialist 8445. The Communications Specialist works closely with Total Compensation to develop communications that support the use of employee benefits.
Responsibilities • Develops an annual communications plan for the University’s benefits plan, including medical, dental, pharmacy, life insurance, vacations and leaves, disability, and long-term care insurance. • Creates benefits-related materials for OHR that include both written and graphic elements, including printed documents, website content, online newsletters, posters and signage, videos, and other channels. • Plan, direct, and evaluate promotions of programs related to employee benefits, including annual benefit fairs, monthly health benefit workshops, and related events. • Work closely with OHR colleagues and vendors to ensure the accuracy of communications. • Attend the Benefits Advisory Committee (BAC) and present communications plans and updates to the BAC as requested while also updating OHR communications about information shared with the BAC. • Manage the work of vendors, including graphic design, print, fulfillment/mailing, video production, and others as needed to ensure projects are on-time, accurate, and align with University and OHR branding guidelines. • Analyze web and email data to identify trends in audience experience that can shape future communication efforts. • Coordinate and monitor the use and adherence of internal and external partners with University and OHR branding guidelines, including print and digital content. • Assist with other communications projects, including website development of new website(s).
Appointment • The position is 100% time exempt, in the Civil Service employee group. • Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
Essential Qualifications • BA/BS degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Art, or a related field with two years of professional experience, or a combination of related education and professional experience totaling six years.
Preferred Qualifications • Four years of professional communications experience. • Strong writing and editing skills. • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of products, and a strong knowledge of design and how it relates to message success. • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels to facilitate positive working relationships and further cross-functional projects and initiatives. • Demonstrated analytical, prioritizing, and project management skills. • Experience in developing and implementing website content strategy. • Experience in developing content for social media. • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and PhotoShop software and basic functions. • Ability to work under pressure with accuracy, meet deadlines, handle interruptions and work independently when needed. • Support the University’s commitment to create and sustain diversity, inclusion, and digital accessibility for faculty, staff, students, and job seekers.
