The Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of California, San Francisco is seeking for a Specialist. The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical expertise in cytometry, acting as the point of contact for UCSF & external users interested in using or being trained on the various Lab for Cell Analysis (LCA) recharge instruments. This position comprises largely of, but is not limited to, training and operation of different types of cytometers, cell sorters, laser microdissection systems, digital & confocal microscopes. The position requires educating our clients & potential clients on how to establish accounts, sign up for time, prepare their samples, utilize our instrumentation, and the calibration & shut-down of complex biomedical instruments. Additional functions include identifying, testing, evaluating, and recommending emerging technologies and future investments, coordinating vendor negotiations and purchasing, administrating LCA billing, evaluating funding models and associated rates, and general maintenance & trouble shooting.
Required Qualifications: • Specialists appointed at the full rank must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or must have at least ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization. • Prior lab management experience including finance management and lab operations. • An in depth knowledge of Flow Cytometry and cell sorting concepts & techniques. • An in depth knowledge of confocal, digit concepts & techniques. • An understanding of Fluorescence excitation & emission principles.
Preferred Qualifications: • Field experience with advanced flow cytometry applications.
Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service.
