Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a world renowned scientific research organization located on the North Shore of Long Island, is seeking an experienced Web Developer II. The ideal candidate will assist in the administration, design and development of the organization’s internal and external websites, including seasonal and customized content. He or she will also assist in creating procedural and web specific documentation for the group while working under the general supervision of the Web Development Manager and will be required to perform additional IT related tasks, as assigned. The Web Developer may be required to perform weekend on-call functions.
Education: A Bachelor’s degree, certificate in computer science, or equivalent post-high school education or experience is required.
Experience: Must have at least three years of experience in web development.
Skills/Knowledge: Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of explaining complex procedures in writing or verbally; good phone skills. Must be able to work well in team environments. Ability to understand customer requirements, write specifications and documentation for website creation/enhancement. Expert in industry standard web development tools and applications. Familiarity with web development tasks and project management. Strong knowledge of building database-driven web applications (MySQL, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar). Strong Knowledge of one or more programming languages (PHP, VB.NET, C#, etc.). Working knowledge of MVC framework in PHP or .NET is a plus. Experience with open source web CMS such as Joomla or Drupal preferred. Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap (or an equivalent responsive design framework) and jQuery (or equivalent library). Ability to work under pressure and time-sensitive projects. Ability to design and develop Restful APIs. Experience with managing web statistics and analytics. Experience with version control system (SVN, Git or similar) is a plus.
Environment: Must be comfortable working well in team environments and have the ability to work under pressure to complete time-sensitive projects.
