As a Research Project Manager, you will draw on a broad set of creative, operational and problem-solving skills in order to facilitate and accelerate academic research at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business (GSB).
You will have the opportunity to work/consult with researchers, faculty, staff, and stakeholders in the various phases of research projects and be responsible for providing seamless project management services to the GSB faculty. The areas of support will range from administrative and finance-related duties to coordinating research activities to building systematic workflows to increasing efficiency in recurring research tasks. The candidate will gracefully support faculty projects of varying type and scope, including high-profile projects lasting multiple years.In coordination with leadership at the Research Hub, the project manager will develop and enhance the existing project management services while playing a multifaceted role in facilitating research as a valuable resource to the faculty.
Your primary responsibilities include:
Provide administrative support to the faculty in the project set-up phase, including facilitating contract and legal reviews, supplier set-up, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews.
Assist in developing, monitoring, and reporting project budget, as well as processing payments and expense transactions.
Assist in defining the scope of the project, developing schedules, and executing research activities in collaboration with faculty, project partners, and stakeholders.
Assist in applying for grants and other funding sources to fund research projects, events or personnel.
Assist in hiring project personnel who will conduct research activities and manage the quality of labor.
Assist in data collection, cleaning, and management in collaboration with the Research Hub Analytics team and ensure all applicable security and privacy laws and regulations are met.
Document and monitor milestones, timelines, and progress in carrying out research activities, as well as specific challenges, over the course of the research and communicate with the faculty regularly to ensure the successful completion of the project within defined scope and budget.
Collaborate with other support services at the GSB and around the campus such as Finance, Human Resources, WORKFORCE LOGIQ, Faculty Support, Office of Sponsored Research, Global Business Services, and Internal Review Board, to address the challenges associated with faculty research and facilitate the process and outcomes.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders and vendors and ensure effective communications.
Perform the full range of project management cycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. Lead projects requiring functional integration. Complete sub-project and/or stand-alone elements (such as vendor selection, oversight of temporary staff, coordinating overseas transactions)
Direct development of an action plan, and estimate requirements for resources, including management, labor, materials, and time required to complete project.
Facilitate discussions and negotiations to drive recommendation consensus within scope of responsibility.
Develop and help execute comprehensive research execution strategy and communication plan relative to project scope and stakeholders on a focused project; actively manage resistance to collaboration.
Be flexible to completing any other additional assigned duties.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
Experience in management of projects of moderate size/complexity with limited performance risk, including project planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting, or a combination of education and experience.
Polished written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences.
Ability to productively contribute to cross-functional teams.
Depth of knowledge in administrative support needed to deliver projects.
Demonstrated project management ability to employ integration, scope time management, cost, quality, HR, communications, risk, and procurement components.

Deep understanding of the research process and project cycle from initiation to closure.
Experience in working with staff or faculty in the academic setting.
Exceptional organizational skills.
Experience in working with research data and the ability to clean, format, and manage datasets.
