We seek a high-performing, tech savvy communications professional knowledgeable about a variety of traditional and developing communications channels to develop communications for IT-related projects, services and initiatives independently, seeking support from management as needed. Must be a fast learner and self-starter, comfortable multi-tasking in a fast-paced, evolving environment.� Will develop communications plan, collateral and provide communications consultation while adhering to communications methodology as well as Washington University and organizational formats and brand standards.� The position will report to the Communications Manager within the Office of the Chief Information Officer. The Communications Manager will set goals, manage performance, and provide guidance/mentoring/collaboration.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide day-to-day communications and communications plan execution for IT services, initiatives and programs within the Washington University Information Technology organization.� Develop collateral including (but not limited to) newsletter content, digital signage, email marketing, flyers, posters, articles, brochures, web content, social media content, press releases, presentations, talking points and similar items. Write, edit, and adapt custom messaging for identified audiences while following well planned approaches and aggressive timelines. Conduct copywriting, conceptualization, design, layout, updates to existing materials, and extensive text revisions. Collaborate with internal technologists, project managers and campus partners on awareness campaigns and projects.
Assist in developing and executing creative branding concepts and awareness and adoption strategies.
Plan and execute webcasts, town hall meetings, workshops, presentations and similar events.
Work with communication liaisons and other contacts across the university to help assure the planning and execution of deliverables meets the objectives of the organization. Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external partners and customers.
Gather and assess communications metrics and data to inform strategic communications decisions.
Research and develop a high-level understanding of IT services and apply knowledge and fundamental concepts, practices and procedures.
Research best practices; evaluate and learn new tools to support communication needs. Demonstrate strong knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or Public Relations) or an equivalent education and experience, plus minimum 5 years of directly related professional work experience, including creating and executing communication plans.
Experience working in higher education and IT
Understanding of and experience with information technology and enterprise resource planning systems
Experience conducting market/audience analysis to drive communications plan development
Demonstrated experience working with senior level management
Demonstrated results developing large complex communication campaigns
Understanding of HTML and basic website development, preferably on the WordPress platform
Experience developing targeted email campaigns, lists and collateral
Experience with event planning and coordination
Experience with media relations efforts and activities

Communicates effectively and frequently both verbally and in writing with other members of the team. Successful experience providing communications consultation and support to help customers create, build and protect their reputation, products and services.

Understanding of basic graphic design principles
Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, specifically Photoshop and InDesign

Applicant Special Instructions:
Office environment. Will need to be able to travel to on-campus locations for meetings and events as needed. Will require occasional on-call availability and working during non-business hours and on weekends. May require travel to conferences, vendor meetings and peer institutions.
The hiring range for this position is $20.77 - $26.46 per hour.
