Job Description Summary
The Business Systems Analyst reports to the Associate Director, Finance and Operations and provides systems guidance, analysis and support to Campus Life units, primarily Student Health Service and University Police. The position partners with supported units to analyze business and user needs, document requirements, design and implement application features, and define best practice business processes. The position acts as a liaison between Information Systems and supported units.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities
Serve as primary liaison between supported units, Information Systems units, and software vendor contacts by partnering with supported units to translate business needs into technical requirements for software applications, integrations and/or reports, providing project management leadership and support, and developing and executing test plans to ensure system compliance with integration needs, business needs, and technical requirements.
Develop knowledge of supported units and their business objectives in order to serve in a thought partner and problem-solving role. Seek out continuing education in new technologies and overall business best practices that may enhance business objectives in supported units.
Provide business continuity planning support and guidance to supported units in compliance with the needs of supported units, Information Systems policies, and emergency management policies.
Lead the investigation and resolution of application issues encountered by users. Log support incidents to software vendor(s) and coordinate timely problem resolution with user and/or Information Systems staff as needed. Review and observe software systems, integrations and/or reports for potential issues. Create new and extends existing operational documentation. Develop and maintain application security rules and access when needed.
Provide training and guidance to users within supported units related to multiple initiatives, software applications, integrations and/or reports.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Bachelor's degree with 5-8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong experience in business analysis, systems analysis and data analysis in transactional and/or data warehousing environments.
Strong reasoning ability and problem-solving skills.
Strong organizational skills, a detail orientation and proven ability to follow projects and issues through to completion required.
Strong interpersonal skills and experience dealing with customers at all levels, one on one and in groups.
Ability to manage the relationship and coordinate the work of external software vendors.
Ability to work independently.
Familiarity with higher education administration current best practices and leading edge technologies is desired.
Ability to work outside of normal business hours may be required by supported units at times.
Selected candidate must pass a criminal history background check.
Works with minimal supervision. Reports to Associate Director, Finance and Operations.
Assists with budget recommendations related to software and systems needs as necessary, in coordination with supported units and Information Systems.
