Essential Job Duties:
The Research Associate will be responsible for a number of varying tasks including project management responsibilities. The Research Associate will develop, design and conduct transportation research in the focus area of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV) and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). The Research Associate will also assist in writing research proposals and may serve as co-investigator or principal investigator on one or more research projects.
The Research Associate position will perform research tasks using various levels of simulation to model the operational, safety, and driver behavior impacts of CAV and ITS. The Research Associate may assist or supervise field data collection and/or equipment installation in support of research projects.

In addition to directly project-related tasks, the Research Associate is expected to assist in preparation of state and national-level proposals, and be involved in group and ITRE staff meetings. The Research Associate is expected to include some travel each year, including national conferences and individual or team data collection trips. The latter may include equipment installation and data collection within the street right-of- way.
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree, or relevant Bachelor’s degree plus 3 or more years of independent research experience. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
Proficiency with MS products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
Possess good organizational skills and requires minimal supervision; detail oriented.
Ability to make presentations utilizing good communication and facilitation skills.
Ability to work independently as well as be part of a team.
Demonstrate a high level of initiative and ability to multi-task.
Should be comfortable with public speaking and able to communicate effectively, as individual will be required to give presentations to steering committees on research.
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally.
Prefer software experience in Statistical Software (SAS, SPSS, R).
Prefer traffic simulation experience in mesoscopic and macroscopic models.
Prefer optimization and systems modeling experience.
