The Senior Sound Designer, Podcasts is a creative design position fully responsible for the production of WBUR broadcast quality audio through digital and/or analog audio editing and mixing. Working both independently and in collaboration with podcast producers, the Senior Sound Designer edits and mixes multiple podcasts for WBUR's iLab. Utilizing their extensive experience and first rate engineering skills, the Senior Sound Designer will also have significant creative input throughout the production process. In short, the Senior Sound Designer provides the special element that is critical in elevating high-profile podcasts. An imaginative and creative approach to audio production and sound design are required to ensure that WBUR podcasts are the most innovative and interesting offerings in a field that is growing exponentially. The Senior Sound Designer supervises both the daily sports podcast and an additional podcast. As a result, efficiency and close attention to detail are required. Technical precision and on-the-fly creativity will also be equally important in this role. A clear vision that helps shape the ideas producers propose for each piece, and an ability to work conceptually in the absence of a defined structure, will also be required to develop podcasts. While there will be a frequent and ongoing dialogue between this role and podcast producers, such that clear communication and interpretive skills are critical, the Senior Sound Designer will also be working independently in the field, ensuring that both audio quality and the recorded content meet the high standards of our podcasts. This is a distinct responsibility of the Senior Sound Designer. The Senior Sound Designer will ideally be a veteran capable of developing our most important podcasts, and their contributions will help define the WBUR brand of podcasts.
