This position is in the WU Furniture & Design Services. This position is for the Danforth Campus.
Responsible for assisting and supporting the interior design team on all small and large projects, new construction, renovation, and existing buildings at the Medical School and Danforth campus and all other outlying facilities. Work with customer departments, facilities, architects, furniture dealers, etc. ensuring organizational and operational efficiency and completion of all assigned projects within Furniture & Design Services Will also focus on any special initiatives that are outside the scope of customary projects such as minority and women owned vendor participation, furniture inventory/reuse, environmental sustainability, to name a few.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As part of the team, meet with customers to understand project concepts and goals, develop schedules - critical dates, determine reuse of existing furniture, etc. Assist with preliminary project budget development.
Support the Interior Designers in project management through scheduling, coordinating installations, verifying furniture delivery, proper layout and installation. Work closely with customers to ensure their installation needs are met, timelines are adhered to and customer satisfaction is achieved. Participate in stakeholder walk through and sign-offs. Obtain customer approval/sign-off on project completion Develop interior design & space planning using current modeling software AutoCAD / Cap 2020 Studio. Present to customers in 2 & 3D layouts, photos and renderings including finish and material selection. Will provide product demos, mock up coordination with facilities and staging with selected vendors. Document final floor plans, material selection, product and design specifications, and review procurement strategies.
Provide post occupancy analysis, lessons learned, benchmarking if required.
As directed, obtain quotes and/or bids for projects. Review RFQs and alternative options with F&D project coordinator, designers and supervisor. Provide final cost overview to facilities project managers as comparison to original budgets. Confirm funding approval from MS/Danforth Facilities project managers. Work with project coordinator to place and track orders
Assist with the research and implementation of a standard process for the re-use and or disposal of existing furniture.
Assist with the documentation process and communication of the University’s furniture standards.
Contribute to the Furniture & Design materials library maintenance, meet with manufacturing reps to stay updated on product and design trends.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design and 2 years’ experience working with either a furniture dealer.
University in-house interiors team, or architecture and design firm or an Associate’s degree in Interior Design with at least 5 years’ experience working with either a furniture dealer, university in-house interiors team, or architecture and design firm.
LEED AP or NCIDQ is a plus and/or a goal to pursue certification is acceptable.
Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design with 3 years’ work experience.
Up to date proficiency in AutoCAD with 2020 CapStudio a plus.
Proficient in Excel, Word and other software tools.
Good working knowledge of the commercial furniture industry relevant to higher education, medical research and healthcare.
Working knowledge of the quality comparisons between mfg’s. Ability to accurately read and interpret furniture plans and specifications
Experience with assisting stakeholders thru the design, finish & furniture selection, specification & pricing support while adhering to budgets and schedules.
Excellent communication skills, with strong customer service.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and also as a team player .
Good organization skills, detail orientated and able to work on multiple projects at the same time.
Must be able to give direction and gain compliance from vendors.
The hiring range for this position is $18.80 - $23.99 per hour.
