The Assistant Director of Student Engagement & Philanthropy is responsible for designing, implementing and managing the administrative, operational, and financial structures of the Student Foundation, which includes the Student Alumni Associates, senior class giving, comprehensive student mentor and alumni preparedness and engagement initiatives and other student volunteer-led organizations in ACAGPDI.
Specifically, the incumbent will create and oversee annual student engagement plans; develop recommendations for committees/task forces' objectives; steward relationships with directors, student trustees, student donors and council persons; and provide leadership and support for all strategic and operational aspects of these governing and advisory boards.
The Assistant Director will collaborate with colleagues in Advancement and across campus to infuse values of pride, engagement and philanthropy and instill a message of giving and service among the UC San Diego community and its students and alumni. These include the creation and delivery of visible programs to promote philanthropy, and opportunities to engage current students with prominent alumni. Develop initiatives to qualify, identify and solicit special gift prospects with emphasis on $1,000 to $25,000.
The position will develop and manage student-centered engagement strategies to educate and build pride with students to prepare them to become engaged and philanthropic alumni upon graduation. In addition, the incumbent will strategically integrate with Donor Development teams to promote donor recognition societies, as vehicles for giving and stewardship.
In addition, the Assistant Director will provide staff assistance, management and administrative support in performing special projects for the Director of Student and Alumni Engagement. The incumbent will also perform other reasonably related business duties if requested by the supervisor.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Must have access to reliable transportation.
Thorough working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques. Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
Demonstrated working knowledge of the administrative structure and academic programs of a major university including knowledge of Advancement industry and trends.
Proven experience in successfully coordinating and executing the logistics of programs, special events, meetings, and receptions. Creative ability to conceptualize, develop and implement programmatic activities.
Demonstrated experience with prospect outreach activities to include donor qualification and fundraising.
Strong ability to provide lead direction to staff and manage volunteers in accomplishing established goals and objectives and maintain office activities with respect to established procedures and guidelines.
Proven experience in effectively advising, motivating, and communicating with university students and staff. Ability to coordinate and encourage interaction with diverse populations.
Demonstrated working knowledge of accepted accounting principles and practices and experience in drafting and overseeing a program budget.
Demonstrated verbal and written skills to prepare logical and concise administrative reports, correspondence and public relations material using proper grammar and punctuation.
Proven ability to use a computerized system with various office software to include database, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, Internet, and word processing systems.
Strong written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including knowledge of accepted principles and practices of marketing and effectiveness in speaking on a one-on-one basis and making oral presentations.
Strong organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills, including skills in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification, avoidance, resolution, and project management skills.
