Serve as the Indiana State Child Passenger Safety Coordinator to Spanish-speaking child passenger safety technicians throughout Indiana. Provide technical support to Latino child passenger safety technicians and instructors. Act as a resource for the certification/recertification process. Serve as a liaison with the national certifying body, Safe Kids Worldwide. Promote certification opportunities. Develop and coordinate refresher course for recertification. Process agreements and reimbursements. Recruit members of statewide Latino communities as child passenger safety technicians to take the standardized courses. Recruit instructor candidates. Provide and promote recertification opportunities.
Support statewide trainings including:
National Child Passenger Safety Technician Training Program (NCPST)
Regional Refresher/Technical Update Courses
Provide education to the general public, organizations, legislators, Department of Child Services, law enforcement, EMS and firefighters etc. by means such as:
Instructing the National Child Passenger Safety Technician Training
Maintaining instructor status
Developing audience-specific educational presentations and materials
Providing one on one consultations with families
Producing quarterly newsletter
Assisting in video productions, such as roll call video for law enforcement
Coordinate the inclusion of statewide traffic safety resources and messages for Hispanic-Latino communities through:
Media opportunities special events
Educational programs statewide car seat clinics for Hispanic-Latino families
Health fairs child safety seat inspection station services presentations and trainings
Research projects development of print, audio/visual, and web based resources for Hispanic- Latino communities in Indiana.
Translational support for various trainings, projects, articles, and presentations
Development of statewide network of Spanish-speaking interpreters and volunteers
Identify and support Spanish-speaking community partnerships with groups such as the Mexican Consulate, Shalom Health Center, Latino Roundtable, churches and health care providers in order to facilitate expansion of child passenger safety outreach initiatives to Hispanic-Latino families. Stay current through conferences, meetings, workshops, listserv, websites, and other appropriate avenues.
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree and three years of professional experience. Bi-lingual in Fluent Spanish and English.
Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
