Work Schedule: FT; Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Some off-hours work for maintenance and emergency repair may be required.
General Description: The Senior Communications Technician is responsible for installation and maintenance of PLU data, voice and video infrastructure. This position assists the Infrastructure Manager and Network Manager with designing and implementing cabling and infrastructure needs for Networking, Telecommunications, and related systems. This position is also responsible for phone moves, adds, and changes, as well as acting as back up to the Infrastructure Manager. Reports to the Infrastructure Manager.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Provide support to campus community on phone/network-related problems.
Perform PBX (digital & analog) and voicemail programming and maintenance, data moves, adds, and changes.
Configure, update, and maintain campus-wide telecommunications infrastructure, documentation, and standards.
Create, update, and maintain SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) guides, troubleshooting manuals, and system documentation.
Maintain E911 database accuracy.
Assist with the supervision, training, and work assignments of student network and telecommunications technicians.
Serve as primary support contact for telecommunications vendors (carriers as well as software and service providers).
Ensure timely delivery and operation of telecommunication services for ad hoc meeting and conference needs.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of codes and procedures for establishing cabling infrastructure pathways.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work as a strong team member within the Networking and Telecom group.
Knowledge of network and telecommunication troubleshooting protocols.
Proficient in using word-processing, spreadsheet, and other standard office applications as well as learning other applications.
Proficient in using and configuring a personal computer running Windows OS.
4 years of job-related experience. Education or certification may substitute for some experience.
High school diploma or GED.
Finalist applicants must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background check.
Experience hiring and supervising communications contractors.
Experience with emergency systems and safety technologies such as alarm, mass-notification, access control, & video surveillance systems.
Work takes place in an office environment and outdoors.
Working conditions can include noisy environments, confined spaces, as well as dusty and dirty environments.
Regularly required to stand, sit, and walk. Occasionally required to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, reach and pull network cables above ceilings.
Must be physically capable of using power and hand tools and other machinery.
Ability to accurately discern colors.
