Do you want to work with state-of-the-art technology, in one of the most beautiful locations in the US? The University of Vermont (UVM) is looking for an experienced system administrator with expertise in at least one of two key areas - disaster recovery and information security. The ideal candidate would be well-versed in both areas, but this position allows for professional development opportunities if you only have expertise in one. You'll be working within the Systems Architecture & Administration team, a community of highly skilled and energetic IT professionals working with the latest in server and storage technologies across multiple datacenters.
The disaster recovery duties of this position will focus on working with institutional stakeholders to ensure that existing data protection solutions adequately protect UVM's digital assets and data. Additional efforts will identify unmet data protection needs and establish effective solutions. Future projects include improving automation of recovery from failure, refining UVM's classification of system and data recovery objectives, and developing/testing runbooks to ensure efficacy of failure recovery procedures.
Operational information security duties will include collaborating with various stakeholders to analyze and ensure timely mitigation of vulnerability scan findings. Additionally, in collaboration with the Information Security Office, this position will focus on implementing new technologies and computer policies to enhance the University's security posture. The information security duties present opportunities for automation and crafting innovative solutions to technical and human-factor vulnerabilities.
Experience with large, complex server infrastructures and networks as well as critical analytical thinking are keys to success in this position.
