The Fund for Global Human Rights is a leading supporter of on-the-ground human rights groups around the world. Dedicated to finding and funding the most effective human rights organizations in five regions and twenty countries, the Fund for Global Human Rights offers grants and facilitates technical support to ensure the long-term effectiveness and viability of frontline groups working in challenging conditions with scant resources. Since 2002, the Fund has awarded over $84 million to more than 680 human rights organizations across the globe. For more information, please visit www.globalhumanrights.org.
The Fund is entering an exciting new chapter in its history. Founded by members of the Human Rights Funders Network, the Fund has historically derived the majority of its support from private foundations. Seeking to broaden support for the human rights cause amidst the rise of authoritarian regimes globally, the Fund seeks to attract revenue from a broader array of donors, including individuals. The Fund in late 2017 created a three-person Communications team to help catalyze this effort.
Currently, the Fund has a few hundred individual donors who contribute almost 10 percent of the organization’s $16 million budget. Our goal is to increase both the number of individual donors and the amount they provide the Fund, relying in part on the new communications capacity. Unlike with academic institutions or hospitals, there is no built-in constituency of individual donors to human rights issues. It must be created and cultivated, using the organization’s assets, which include an accomplished and hard-working staff; a dedicated and generous board and donor base; and courageous, effective grantees who appreciate the Fund’s unique partnership and support of their activism.
The Fund seeks to hire a Director of Individual Giving to invigorate and lead the organization’s individual giving program. The director will:
Set donor strategy for the Fund, focusing on both major donors ($10K+) and those giving at a lower level
Convey the importance of international issues to domestic audiences.
Develop programs to engage individual donors in auxiliary bodies.
Attract and cultivate high-level prospects.
Oversee digital marketing and other strategies to recruit new donors.
Prepare and report on annual budgets and revenue projections.
Demonstrate leadership and expertise on fundraising with the board and staff.
Work collaboratively with colleagues on other teams, including institutional relations, communications, program, and finance.
Plan and execute donor-focused events and organize the Fund’s presence at conferences.
Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years of experience in fundraising, including at least 3 years of experience creating and leading a robust individual giving program;
Commitment to and familiarity with human rights issues;
Superb written and verbal skills to effectively communicate the Fund’s work;
