This position isresponsible for supporting and connect the activities of the Office of the ViceProvost for Research (OVPR), particularly activities involving SponsoredPrograms Administration (SPA) and the Center for Technology Transfer andCommercialization (CTTC). SPA provides pre-award support to faculty fortheir grant and contract proposals to external funding agencies, includingproposal preparation, submission and tracking, and non-financial post-awardadministration and management support, while the CTTC provides professionalcommercialization services to the Vanderbilt community, thus optimizing theflow of innovation to the marketplace and generating revenue that supportsfuture research activities, while having a positive impact on society. TheCoordinator's duties will focus on multi-domain projects spanning entitieswithin OVPR, including communications (e.g., website management, news,publicity materials and other print media), assisting with preparations for thereplacement of the Coeus and PEER digital research administration systems andimplementation of a new digital research administration system, andcoordinating engagements with external research partners such as the AncoraInnovation partnership with Deerfield Management, the education partnershipagreement between Vanderbilt and the Army Futures Command (AFC), and Oak RidgeNational Lab. The Coordinator will also provide support to OVPR SpecialProjects Manager as needed. The successful candidate should be comfortable withworking in a dynamic setting and be skilled at communicating with a variety ofstakeholders.
The Office of the ViceProvost for Research is led by Vice Provost for Research PadmaRaghavan. The role of the office has been expanded from its pastdefinition based on faculty feedback. In addition to overseeing theuniversity's research portfolio, the Vice Provost for Research also overseesimplementation of the university's new future vision and trans-institutionalstrategies and works closely with the Provost, academic Deans, Vice Provosts,and the faculty at large to advance the quality of the research and scholarshipuniversity-wide. Activities include developing and implementingstrategies to enhance extramural support for research and advanced studies fromall sources – corporate, foundation, federal, and philanthropic, advancing acohesive and vibrant international research agenda, and seeking keypartnerships around shared priorities research. The Vice Provostworks with the Vanderbilt University Research Council in advocating for theresearch and scholarship missions of all disciplines at Vanderbilt.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under general supervision, manage communications spanning OVR entities to maintain transparency and continuous engagement with internal stakeholders and enhance the visibility and prestige of Vanderbilt research to external audiences (~50%)
Maintain office website in coordination with teams within OVPR
Create publicity materials for internal and external use including brochures, pamphlets, and postcards
Devise and implement communication plans for initiatives and projects within OVPR, including the upcoming replacement of the Coeus/PEER digital research administration systems
Support and coordinate industry engagement with the CTTC to enhance the impact of and diversify support for Vanderbilt research (~25%)
Monitor and promote news articles and other publicity concerning industry engagement with research
Support emerging and developing large-scale partnerships with industry, including coordinating engagement between faculty and industry representatives and preparing materials and presentations
Report and analyze award and proposal data from SPA to track progress on key initiatives and identify areas for future development (~20%)
Coordinate with SPA leadership and staff to track major projects and proposals and provide regular updates to the Special Projects Manager
Analyze proposal and award data and prepare reports for a variety of audiences and purposes (e.g., initiative progress tracking, reporting to leadership, publicity, etc.)
Other duties as assigned to cohere and support OVPR efforts, including (~5%)
Prepare other ad hoc reports or presentations on OVPR projects or initiatives
Coordinate communications and meetings with faculty and staff, particularly committees and working groups devoted to OVPR initiatives
Profile of an IdealCandidate
A Bachelor's degree is necessary.
A Master's Degree is preferred.
3 year to 5 years of comparable experience is preferred.
Experience working in a research- or higher education-related field is preferred.
Strong analytical, organizational, technical writing, and communication skills
Experience working with databases and spreadsheets to create customized reports.
Ability to work simultaneously on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment where priorities change in response to external needs and opportunities.
Discretion and the ability to work independently in situations requiring judgment and initiative.
Prior experience working with staff and faculty from across disciplines.
