The intellectual heart of UC Berkeley, the College of Letters & Science (L&S) is the largest of the university’s 14 colleges and schools and the most prestigious teaching and research unit in the UC system. L&S encompasses more than half of the campus’s faculty, three-quarters of its undergraduate students, and half of its Ph.D. candidates.
As UC Berkeley increasingly depends on building external relationships- many of which will ultimately result in philanthropy-- our External Relations Spec 3 will play an important role in providing the departments of the Divisions of Mathematical & Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences the tools to accomplish this.
•In collaboration with L&S College Relations, works with the MPS and BSD departmental staff and faculty. Helps develop departmental newsletters, one-sheets, stewardship pieces, and collateral that addresses the campaign and special projects. Coordinates with writers and designers at UDAR and elsewhere, when necessary. •Provides assistance with events and event communications. •Develops and shares information with departments on available resources, best practices and policy guides in areas related to marketing, communications, fundraising and fundraising operations. At the direction of the divisional dean, counsels faculty and staff of departments and academic programs on management and development of annual funds. •Manages email solicitations to departmental annual funds, at year end and for Big Give. •Responds to constituent inquiries, handling specific requests as appropriate, connecting constituents to internal or external campus resources as appropriate and managing constituent expectations around policy and resources limitations •Develops ad-hoc reports and work on special projects, such as analysis of annual fund giving and Big Give.•Familiar with best practices in development communications and marketing, particularly in support of fundraising. •Ability to use social media to strengthen divisions’ reaches to alumni and the public. •Strong critical thinking and analytical skills. •Thorough written, verbal and interpersonal communications, tact and political acumen to effectively represent the campus. •Thorough research, analytical and critical thinking skills. •Demonstrated excellent project management skills. •Excellent listening and relationship-managing skills, including sound judgment and decision-making skills and skill to accurately identifying and anticipate problems, advising management as required and proposing effective strategic resolutions. •Adept at recognizing potential areas of constituency concern and addressing, resolving and/or mitigating problems or issues; maturity and insight to recognize situations where guidance is warranted. •Experience in direct marketing and fundraising.
Education/Training: •Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
