Provide specialized architectural and/or urban design services; prepares programs, documents, correspondence and presentations related to architectural and/or urban design projects; serves as a liaison between the City, contractors and other related groups in order to help see a project through to completion; supervises the work of subordinate personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KSAS):

Knowledge of: Principles and practices of architecture and/or urban design theory. Auto CAD programs and their use. Facility management principles. Construction materials and methods. Cost estimation; budget management procedures. Principles of management, supervision and training.
Ability to: Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Create drafting/architectural drawings. Estimate costs and time requirements of construction requirements. Prepare contract documents, specifications, requests for proposals and other documents. Manage construction projects. Work with a wide range of people, from construction workers to community leaders. Analyze and solve complex problems. Make architectural presentations to the public. Use computer office applications to prepare necessary documents and correspondence. Manage, supervise and train subordinate personnel; assign work to subordinate personnel.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Prepare design concepts, plans, etc. for assigned projects; use CAD and manual methods. Write and prepare urban design or facility plans, including analyses, design, guidelines and recommendations. Prepare specifications, estimates and contract documents for assigned projects. Prepare verbal, written and graphic presentations as assigned; produce renderings and models as appropriate. Attend a variety of meetings with clients, contractors, City administrators and other groups; negotiate with various groups as needed in order to see projects through to completion. Assume project management duties and project team coordination duties as assigned; fill in for Architect Supervisor as assigned. Provide instruction, training and assistance to technical staff as appropriate. Write reports and prepare correspondence as assigned. Prepare paperwork for contract bidding processes; review bid documents received. Provide information and assistance with developing the departmental budget. Assist those contacted in the course of duty in an effective, efficient and professional manner. Perform related duties as assigned.
Each applicant must have a Bachelor's degree (five- or six-year track) from an accredited college or university in architecture. If not registered in Ohio when appointed, Ohio registration must be obtained during the probationary period. (Resume and transcripts must be attached or application will be rejected.)
Possession of an architectural license by the Ohio State Board of Examiners of Architects as Professional Architect. Possession of a valid Driver's License.
Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.
Background Investigation: A criminal background investigation will be conducted for this position (according to Civil Service Commission Rule 15 – Sensitive Classifications/Positions and the Critical Infrastructure Protection Act of 2001 and the Patriot Act). The purpose is to detect security risks and prevent security threats posed by potential employees.
