The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the planning, analysis, design, configuration, and maintenance of network hardware that support the university's residential networking program as well as Student Life administrative staff network. The decisions made by this position directly impact the residential network service to 17,000+ Ohio State students across multiple campuses and 2500+ Student Life staff in 65+ buildings. Responsibilities include the following: management of the purchase, installation, and support of network systems specific to Student Life; ensuring compliance with university, state and federal security regulations; evaluating current networking and security systems; assisting with training and management of network engineering staff; developing and maintaining working relationships with other Student Life departments, university network teams and outside vendors; working on complex problems where analysis of situations require in-depth evaluation of various factors; ensuring that all hardware and software components are installed and configured properly for Student Life networks; coordinate efforts between network engineering staff, outside vendors, information security, and OCIO networking; providing technical leadership and expertise in selecting networking technologies; managing Student Life networks including configuration, management and monitoring of network devices including switches and firewalls; conducting evaluation of network services and technology for current and future network development.
Bachelor's degree in engineering or CIS, or equivalent combination of education and experience; three years in a Lead Network Engineer position; experience in the setup of Ethernet networks in multi-protocol environments; experience with MDF/IDF designs, ST/SC/LC MTRJ Multimode and single mode fiber, wireless infrastructures, 802.11 wireless protocol, encryption, firewall management, Cat5E/Cat6 cabling, and TCP/IP; strong knowledge of layer 2/3 switching technologies along with familiarity with routing protocols.
Five years in a Senior Network Engineer position; Cisco or Juniper networking or security certifications (CCNA, CCNP, CCDA, CCDP, JNCIP-SEC, JNCIS-SEC, JNCIA-Junos, JNCIS-ENT); 1-3 years of experience working with hybrid on-premise/cloud networking; three years of experience with scripting & automation (Perl, SSH, Syslog, Bash, Powershell); three years of experience with Linux systems administration; experience with firewalls, remote access, intrusion detection and knowledge of security best practices; 1-3 years of experience with PHP, SQL development; experience in project management; experience in a high education environment.
Target Salary: $95,000.00 - $110,000.00 Annually
