Commodities generalist covering both physical and financial transactions
This person will be part of the wider Commodities legal team within the Markets Legal Department. This is a critical hire for the team and the business due to the resignation of an existing subject expert and also the continued growth and expansion of Citi's Global Commodities business.
K ey Responsibilities:
Counsel will support the current trading and financing activities of the Global Commodities business.
As part of this function, counsel will work closely with the other members of the commodities legal team in London. Counsel's key responsibilities will include:
Advice and drafting on all aspects of physical commodity transactions;
Advice and drafting in respect of OTC financially settled transactions;
Support for exchange trading;
Coordination with EMEA and US regulatory, credit, compliance, risk management, tax and other control functions as part of the overall risk architecture of the bank.
Experience negotiating commodities market standard documentation
Experience of non-standard physical commodities trading
Understanding of commodities exchange platforms
Knowledge of EU and member state regulation applicable to the physical commodity markets
General knowledge of financial markets regulatory requirements
Successful candidates will have approximately 3 to 5 years PQE, or equivalent with experience.
General legal skills: drafting, negotiation, issue spotting, problem solving
Ability to communicate effectively with front office personnel / non-lawyers
Ability to deal with daily legal issues independently
Strong project management skills
Ability to facilitate knowledge sharing for legal team (mentoring) and front office personnel
