Multimedia Specialist, Extension Service - Charleston 11614
The WVU Extension Service (WVUES) is seeking applications for a Multimedia Specialist. This position, located in Charleston WV , will provide a wide range of communication assistance to the Family Nutrition Program (FNP), including writing/editing feature stories, press releases, fact sheets and Web content using both print and digital storytelling. This position will be responsible for developing and implementing social media strategy and content for various social media platforms and will work with FNP and Extension Communications teams to showcase the valuable programming, research and resources provided to people and communities in West Virginia, as well as on a national stage.
In order to be successful, the ideal candidate will be able to:
Serve as writer and editor for the WVUES Family Nutrition Program (FNP), demonstrating a high level of writing, research and editing skills for an array of projects, including grant applications, scholarly articles, program marketing and direct education materials, newsletters, impact reports, feature stories, bios, web/video content, social media communication, fact sheets, news releases, scripts, talking points and other communication.
Create, edit and implement digital storytelling using video and photography for use on Web, social media and other digital media.
Provide strategic communication counsel to enhance FNP's visibility and reputation in WV.
Work with others to develop story ideas that showcase the breadth and scope of programs, research and outreach efforts.
Proofread, edit and write critical correspondence for the FNP administrative team.
Work closely with Extension Communications team to ensure all materials are properly branded using the WVU brand/style/trademark guidelines, ADA guidelines and funding agency guidelines.
Work with Communications team to identify and pursue story placement and respond to inquiries from news media.
Facilitate production of publicity materials for events and program activities
Integrate FNP messaging and goals to execute a social media strategy through video, Web and social media content which complements traditional communication.
Manage social media for FNP; perform day-to-day postings and reviewing internal accounts.
Assist with planning and organizing materials for multiple FNP events.
Identify opportunities for promoting local/regional FNP events and attend as needed.
Assist with multimedia (photography, video, audio) projects by attending special events as necessary to craft event take-away messages and publicity.
Work with Communications team and WVU Trademark and Licensing to ensure communication materials, participant educational enhancements, giveaways and other materials align with WVU brand.

Work Hours: 8:15 am - 4:45 pm (37.50 hours per week)
Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications or related field.
At least two (2) years of experience in creating and developing content for digital and print communications.
Preferred experience in video and photo storytelling.
Knowledge of news and media relations
Knowledge of various social media platforms and data analytics
Strong news and feature writing skills using AP Style and APA Style
Ability to manage online content, including Web, social media and other digital platforms.
Demonstrated knowledge of communications principles, media relations, marketing techniques and operations.
Demonstrated knowledge of journalism principles and techniques.
Demonstrated knowledge of editorial and ethical standards for research and development of articles and presentations.
Demonstrated knowledge of various software programs, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe (Photoshop, Premier, InDesign, Illustrator)
Demonstrated ability to use digital technology, including photography, video/video editing.
Knowledge of event planning including implementation and execution.
