Atlas is seeking a very talented and creative individual with the ability to create designs in 3D. A knowledge of computer aided design (CAD) systems is required. Candidates with previous packaging experience are highly desired. Our designers will be outgoing, customer service oriented and will work as part of a team, as well as independently. Atlas designers will work primarily with the Sales team as well as well as outside clients. The ideal candidate will have one to three years of prior work experience preferably in the corrugated packaging industry.
Corrugated Structural Packaging Designer Tasks
Design to improve both shipping ease and visual appeal of packaging.
Work with customers to identify packaging needs and explain constraints.
Identify cost and marketing parameters to track and report on.
Test shipping designs and display cases, using knowledge of crush strength and equipment.
Responsible for creatively designing the structural and graphic packaging design concepts that promote the customer experience and production efficiencies. In addition, responsible for managing incoming quote requests, including estimating all new incoming items.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Formulate and communicate packaging concepts for new accounts or products, analyzing customer needs and offering design solutions in a timely manner. Utilize CAD software (structural) and Adobe graphics software (graphic) to create industry leading packaging designs.
Create cost estimates (quotations), manage production feasibility, and order production tooling. Project manages from design initiation through manufacturing completion.
Analyze changes in the industry and research innovations in equipment that can be adapted to company operations.
Promote continuous improvement in all aspects of the Design process as well as pre- and post-Design processes. Provide support to internal departments such as Customer Service, Production, etc.
Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
Comply with company policies and procedures.
Additional duties may be assigned by management.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
College education in the field of packaging, design, and engineering.
Good communicator with customers and sales staff.
Any of the following is a plus: knowledge of CAD software, graphic design software, 3D modeling and animation.
Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
