DIGITIZATION ASSOCIATE , MIT Libraries-Metadata and Digital Collection Services (MDCS) Program , to contribute to digital imaging activities for project scanning. Responsibilities include using a high level of care, accuracy, and security in performing digitization of historical or rare documents; using imaging software (e.g., Capture One Pro, QUICKscan, SilverFast) and various types of equipment (e.g., automatic document feeder, slide/flatbed or digital camera systems) to digitize materials; using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, or PrimeOCR to perform advanced image processing; performing post processing tasks (e.g., cropping, embedding metadata, etc.) to prepare files for digital preservation and quality control of in-house/outsourced projects; working with staff to resolve complex problems and with vendors to facilitate repairs; writing/maintaining procedural documentation; troubleshooting software/hardware problems; and meeting customer deadlines and production goals. May coordinate the work of other staff.
REQUIRED : two years' direct/related experience; technical experience with digital imaging equipment (especially digital cameras) and related Windows-based and Mac OS software applications, e.g., Adobe Acrobat Professional, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Excel, and FileMaker Pro; ability to learn, understand, and effectively use new software/technology; attention to detail and accuracy; strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, verbal and written communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills; ability to identify problems and carry out solutions independently or collaboratively, manage competing priorities with minimal supervision, work as an integral part of a service team, and interact effectively with a variety of people; and initiative and flexibility. Familiarity with digital imaging technologies and standards (e.g., scanner technology, digitization workflow, imaging system troubleshooting, digital photography or image analysis and processing software); experience in a library, higher education, and/or customer service environment; and experience with Capture One Pro imaging software preferred. Hourly rate: $21.00/hour minimum, depending upon qualifications and experience
There is some schedule flexibility between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M., Monday through Friday.
