Essential Functions: Job PurposeReporting to the Executive Director, the Business Support Service Director, Economic Development is responsible for developing, managing and coordinating all internal and external relationships for the recruitment of small business owners for the grant-funded small business initiative at Wayne State. Recruits scholars and the provision of scholars' business support services obtained internally or externally to the program. Acts as a liaison with other staff to organize and connect all external activities with internal support (networking events, panels, and clinic activities for campuses and scholars). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSManages all activities related to recruitment of scholars at Wayne State, including the development and implementation of recruitment strategies, objectives and plans. Oversees the coordination of alumni referrals.Provides leadership to assigned staff. Responsible for staff hiring, performance management including coaching, counseling, evaluation, training and development. Provide guidance to staff ensuring advising or alumni goals and objectives are attained and the Measurement and Evaluation process is completed. Establishes and cultivates business partner relationships with local organizations and associates to assist in recruitment of small business owners.Develops and manages relationships with Community Development Financial Institutions ("CDFIs"), serving as a liaison between CDFIs and college campuses and scholars.Solicits scholars, guest speakers, technical assistance, and subject matter expertise to support campus education program and events.Monitors progress of all community partners who receive sub-grants from the college; prepares reports and evaluations of activities.Attends select modules, clinics, and events to support the program. Monitors progress of external events, prepares reports and evaluations of activities and facilitates communication between all other business partners and local campus personnel. Participates in bi-weekly debriefing sessions and Scholar Support Services calls to support program integration and consistency.Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: EDUCATIONBachelor's Degree, preferably in business, entrepreneurship, sales or related field, is required. Advanced degree strongly preferred.EXPERIENCEFive years of successful business and entrepreneurship experience; experience in community outreach and development of program partnerships; experience using program / project management principles, practices, and processes.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESINTERPERSONAL SKILLS: The ability to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and a wide range of business, industry, and community partners.SUPERVISORY SKILLS: Ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow. Strong mentoring skills and coaching skills.COMMUNICATION SKILLS: The ability to professionally and effectively deliver presentations to small and large groups. A high level of interpersonal communication skills to accurately convey information.TEAMWORK: Proven ability to foster a team environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectivelyANALYTICAL SKILLS: Ability to develop and oversee quality assurance measures to ensure program effectivenessFLEXIBILITY: Ability to work and set priorities to achieve goals and objectives Some evenings and weekend availability may be necessary.
