The Technical Services Specialist functions in four areas of responsibility: Responsible for digital transfers of audio and video recordings as part of the SCPC Samuel Rubin Foundation and NEH grants. (62%); Oversight of Periodicals Collection (25%); Reference and Patron Services (13%). This position supervises student assistants and temporary summer archival assistants.
Maintains SCPC standards for preservation, conservation and safety of materials when in use by patrons. Effectively communicates all SCPC policies about use of materials to patrons. Maintains confidentiality regarding patrons and all researchers. Maintains all security procedures, such as constant surveillance of patrons using valuable resources. Maintains an understanding of copyright issues and effectively communicates this when appropriate to patrons.
Undergraduate college course work required, with some course work in U.S. History. Ability and desire to gain knowledge about the peace movement.
Experience with up to date integrated library systems.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
One to two years of experience with serial acquisitions or other significant library experience, preferably in a technical service department of an academic or research library.
Experience with digitization of fragile materials and creating metadata records
Familiarity with Alma
