ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, GIFT OPERATIONS , Office of the Recording Secretary (RSO) , to act as a key RSO management team member and provide strategic direction to the team responsible for recording MIT's significant gifts, representing approximately $500M in revenue. Will manage operations and pledge recording from acceptance to receipt of gifts, including contributions made by check, wire, securities, foreign entities, and emerging methods; manage the preparation and distribution of pledge reminders for commitments of $25,000; provide business analysis to determine and implement efficient and transparent practices, appropriate staffing roles, and team structure; hire, supervise, and coach the gift operations team, setting priorities and providing direction using annual planning and performance management tools.
REQUIRED : bachelor's degree (master's preferred) in a related field; at least seven years' progressively responsible gift operations management experience, preferably in higher education or other highly complex institutions; at least five years' experience managing direct reports; expertise with fund-raising databases and accounting systems; thorough understanding of gift and pledge recording in large organizations, IRS gift regulations, and accepted peer and CASE standards/procedures; familiarity with legal issues surrounding 501(c)(3) organizations and with IRS Publication 526 for charitable contributions; strong coaching, project management, and oral and written communication skills; ability to establish priorities and organize and direct effective implementation of tasks in a high-pressure environment; good judgment and discretion with confidential information/communications/issues; self-motivation; team player with proven record of effective collaborations; proficiency navigating FileMaker Pro, RequestTracker, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Apple products; and eagerness to learn new technologies.
