This position is responsible for auditing accounts payable transactions through the application of professional accounting principles and methods. This role will perform accounting functions through the auditing of financial records. Work includes, but is not limited to, the auditing of invoices and claims for payment for guest travel / reimbursable expenses, honorarium / limited engagements, memberships / subscriptions, non-NYU prizes and awards, royalties, licensing and taxes, auditing of supporting documentation and claims for payment of employee travel and business expenditures, and student reimbursements. Ensure accurate tax categorization of supplier payment requests. Respond to questions from internal departments and external vendors, enforcing IRS and University policies related to expenditures or payments. Perform complex analysis and oversee month-end and year-end close and annual audit deliverables.
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field or equivalent experience
Required Experience: 3+ years' experience in Accounts Payable or Finance organization; In-depth knowledge and practical application of IRS regulations; 2-5 years relevant experience in operational areas including Account Reconciliation, ACH, Wire Transfer, Vendor Management, etc.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to effectively assess regulatory compliance risks and determine the impact to university. Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management and external counterparts to establish and foster critical internal and external working relationships with strong listening, negotiation and problem solving skills. Demonstrated ability to write reports and communicate audit findings (both verbally and in writing) to management and staff. Excellent project management skills, ability to meet deadlines, prioritize multiple tasks, manage priorities and prepare timely status updates independently. Excellent PC skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, internet and industry specific programs.
