Where the Chemistry Happens
The Category Manager is responsible for procurement, or purchasing, of technical goods and services for the production sites and other facilities relating to capital investment and maintenance projects. The incumbent will have detailed knowledge about the equipment, materials, and supplies used in industry, and the companies that sell them. The Category Manager will evaluate new and existing suppliers including subcontractors and negotiates purchase agreements with them. Also, you will ensures that purchased goods and services are delivered as promised. This includes insuring compliance to BASF EHS standards, operating procedures, business rules, etc.
Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Formula for Success
Develop, evaluate and negotiate proposals for new and existing suppliers following procurement and legal procedures to obtain the maximum benefit for the company (lead-time, cost and quality).
Develop, implement and drive the procurement strategies in order to optimize cost.
Negotiate with and manage suppliers to meet objectives related to cost, delivery performance, schedule and quality.
Analyze suppliers in order to select the most suitable suppliers who are able to deliver high quality products at competitive pricing.
Adopt appropriate supplier management methodologies and procurement strategies in purchasing to secure better prices.
Ensure suppliers in the region adhere to department, BU and corporate objectives as they relate to operations, cost, security, systems support (SAP), EHS, and compliance to local, state and federal regulatory requirements.
Function as the Liaison between BU, Site, and the facilities in the region as a single point of contact.
Implement initiatives through effective Project Management
Select and perform internal and external cost and market comparisons (e.g. cost-benefit analysis and capabilities assessment)
Responsible for compliance to an annual budget
Perform regular performance review with suppliers to drive continuous improvements.
Create monthly performance reviews and reports focusing on overall sourcing requirements.
Ensure commercial, legal and contractual compliances in all the procurement transactions.
